Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

While you wonder where February went …

FLOOD YOUR EARDRUMS
Great local band Lance Canales and The Flood is playing Saturday night at The Brick Wall, joined by JJ Brown. You can read more about Canales and crew in this week’s Artists You Should Know. If you like roots rock meets blues with a Native American twist, then you’ll probably dig this show.

SOUND THE TRUMPET
Have a shreddin’ Saturday night at Tokyo Garden, where hard-hitting rockers Trumpet Solo will be having their CD release party along with It’ll Grow Back and Azarel.

FIND TATTED GLORY
Sugarhill and Death or Glory Tattoo are hosting Idol Hands, a night of tattoo-influenced artwork, wine, music and more on Saturday. Oughta be colorful.

DON’T BE SCURRED
Hard rockers Scary Kids Scaring Kids (yep, those guys) return to Fresno on Saturday, playing at Club Retro as a stop on their farewell tour. *waves*

REMEMBER THE WILD BLUE
Expect a few blasts from Fresno’s music past on Sunday, when famous local band the Wild Blue Yonder plays a mini-reunion concert to pay tribute to its original drummer, Dave Stewart, who passed away recently. It’s a part of a jam session honoring Stewart’s local music legacy. You can read more about it all in this Bee article. Check out their promo video below. The event is 6 p.m. Sunday at Tokyo Garden.

BONUS: GO TO THE PARK
I dunno about you, but I can’t wait for a sunny day. Sunday looks as if it might be a winner. In that case, I figured you all deserve a head’s up about a new park opening in Fresno this weekend:

The official 2010 Rogue Festival Maps (programs, to the lay person) are due to be delivered to Ashtree Studios today sometime this afternoon. The best start day to pick one up for sure is Saturday, Feb. 27th at Ashtree during our open hours 10am-3pm. So I’ll be busy this weekend planning my Rogue schedule to take in as many shows as I can!
It all starts Thursday, March 4th with the ArtHop/RogueHop Opening Reception at Ashtree Studios – Your Rogue Gallery – from 5-8pm. We’ll have art, you can meet the artists in person, and see teasers from Rogue performers. Then it’s off to Full Circle Brewery at 8:30pm for the rest of the Kick Off to Rogue Party (with more teasers there too)!
Oh yeah, and it’s not too late for anyone to be a part of this wonderful Rogue circus by coming out to the Rogue Volunteer Training/BBQ (that’s right -there’ll be food!) also this Saturday, Feb. 27th at 11am-1pm at Ashtree Studios. If you volunteer, you not only get to be a part of this great experience called Rogue, but you can also earn . . . wait for it . . . FREE TICKETS TO SHOWS! Yes, it’s true, we love and value our volunteers (after all, we’re all volunteers, even the Rogue Core staffers), and we can’t do this Rogue thing without you! So come on out to Ashtree Studios this Saturday, Feb. 27th between 11am-1pm and find out how you too can run away with the Rogue Circus!

Yes yes. Rogue training over tbe weekend, for those of us out-of-rogue-shape. I’m there—Ashtree.

Breaking Rogue News: The 2010 Rogue Map (program) just arrived at Ashtree Studios! You can pick one up for yourself today until we close at 6pm. And again tomorrow Sat. Feb 27th, from 10am-3pm. Time to start planning your Rogue experience!
