Enjoy yourselves, Fresno. I’ll be outta town.
1. GET MEATY
Tired of Top 40 club nights? Give Meatball Magic a try. Tonight is actually its five-year anniversary (congrats!) of playing indie, electro, new wave and more bi-weekly at The Red Lantern. If that’s not a good enough reason, how often do you party at Belmont and Maple?
2. SEE LEMON SUN SHINE
It’s a rad night of retro rock at Audie’s Olympic tonight. On the bill are L.A. band Lemon Sun and Seattle’s Curtains For You. Lemon Sun has a classic rock appeal to them, and Curtains For You include a little bit of ’60s pop sing-songy fun.
3. LOSE CONTROL
Underground hip-hop fans might wanna check out Babylon tonight, where San Diego group O.C.T./Outta Control makes a tour stop. They’ve got a little bit of a rock edge to them too. Also on the bill are locals Chuck Dimes and Iceman, both quality acts.
4. CHOOSE BETWEEN PECHA KUCHA AND LOOKEE LOO
The choice on Saturday is between Pecha Kucha and Lookee Loo — two events fueled by local creativity that we told you about yesterday. Both are happening at the same time (PK is at 4 p.m., LL is at 4:30 p.m.), so people are going to choose. Here’s a pretty funny video (with NSFW Language) with Lookee Loo contestant Brodiemash and Pecha Kucha host Travis Sheridan squaring off in a parking-garage debate.
5. RIDE THE LIGHTNING
Still tired of Top 40 club nights? Well, there’s a remedy on Sunday too. Audie’s Olympic has DJ Revol (aka Johnny Q) and DJ Bradley spinning. Worth noting: Bradley is playing a two-hour house set, something he hasn’t done in Fresno in a while. “[It] will be the first time in over a year playing a two-hour headlining set in my own town. NYC, SF, but not FAT in a YEAR,” Bradley says. “I’ve been having fun exploring other music (afrobeat, funk, soul, etc), but I’m jonesing to play a nice long house set!”
