Helping Haiti 2: More help from the local music scene

Last week, I wrote about a number of local music events aimed at helping Haiti. The list has kept growing, so I figured an update was in order.

Remember that Rock 4 Haiti is still coming up on Tuesday at Starline, and the Sound-N-Vision benefit in Visalia is also this weekend. Here are a few that are new to schedule.

GOING ACOUSTIC

BLUES AT THE TOWER

  • Tower Theatre is set to host a big blues benefit on March 27, featuring a who’s who of the local blues scene. It’s organized by the Central Valley Blues Society. Scheduled to perform: MoFo Party Band, Rudy Parris Band, Deja Blues, The Lucky Lopez Band, Cole Fonseca and Loose Gravel Blues Band. I’ll post more info on this as I get it.

TURN IT UP

  • Many of the DJs from B95 have put together a Help 4 Haiti benefit next Thursday at North India Bar & Grill in Clovis. What’s cool about this one is that the restaurant is even kicking in some of its food and bar sales.

A FRAT PARTY FOR HAITI

  • Yep, even the Fresno State frats are getting involved. The Delta Upsilon Chapter House, at 4307 E Sierra Madre Ave., is hosting a night of local rock on Friday (aka tomorrow, aka Feb. 5). There’s a talent show starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m. from The Escorts, Tokyo Death March and Life at Twilight. It’s free to get in, but donations will be collected.

Another way to donate (although it’s not exactly local) is to purchase the HopeforHaiti CD from iTunes. The benefit show had some very beautiful songs and the CD is only 7.99 for 20 tracks. What a steal.
