Remember to wear your raincoat …
1. PICK PICKFORD
Jazz lovers, head down to Club One Casino tonight to see saxophonist Loren Pickford. It’s nice to see Pickford, considered a Fresno music icon by many, back in town. He’s a Fresno native, who spent many years in New Orleans, then set up shop in Kansas City after Hurricane Katrina. Pickford was nominated for a Grammy in 1991, making him one of the few Fresno musicians to get that honor. It’s also nice to see Club One Casino doing more concerts. It was a great venue at the re:FUSE Festival. More details here.
2. PUT A BOW ON YOUR XMAS
Patrick Contreras, Fresno’s rousing rock violinist, is toning it down a notch on Saturday, playing a Christmas concert at The Revue. If you’re looking for more of a classical touch from Contreras, you’ll find it here. If you’re looking for him to climb on the bar … maybe not. You can consider this show a gift, because it’s free.
3. LAUGH DOWNTOWN
The cozy Teazer World Tea Market in downtown Fresno is getting a few laughs tonight, thanks to their “Dysfunctional Comedy” night. A bunch of local comics are on the bill. Plus, some yummy tea will probably mix well with a rainy night.
4. GO GOTH
It’s been four years since the last FresnoGoth.com event, but tonight, the once-popular goth festivities return at Audie’s Olympic. It’s the CD release party for local band Alexandria Burning (read more about them in this Artists You Should Know interview), who will be joined by fellow dark rock band Tell-Tale Heartbreakers (out of the Bay Area).
5. GET YOUR JOLLIES
The Valley Burlesque Society gives us a round of its adults-only holiday fun on Saturday at Full Circle Brewing Co. with its “All I Want For Christmas” show. Even though it’s going to be cold outside, we think it’s going to be extra hot inside Full Circle.
