When you’re not eating deep-fried fair food …
1. GET A MONSTER MULLET
Have your heard? The Fresno Monsters — our new upstart hockey team — are 7-0. They’re also in town this weekend. Tonight, they take a page out of the Grizzlies playbook, with a zany promo. It’s mullet night and if you have a mullet (real or fake) you get in for $5.
2. ROLL DOWN TO VISALIA
NoTown Roller Derby is playing a Highway 99 grudge match against Visalia’s V-Town Derby Dames. Visalia has hometown advantage, playing at Roller Towne. I’m curious to see what kind of crowd Visalia draws and how well NoTown fans travel. (Yeah, that was sort of a challenge). Details: 6 p.m. Saturday. $10-$12.
3. WATCH OUT FOR DEAD PEOPLE
If you’re in Visalia on Saturday night, then the cool show of the night is a Cellar Door stop by … And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. As you can guess, they’re a jolly, happy group of upstanding young men. Actually, they’re not as brutal as the name sounds — with an art rock sound and a ton of indie cred. There’s even as art show happening as part of the event. Still, I’d suggest trying not to die. Details: 9:30 p.m. Saturday. $15.
4. HANG W/ TIMMY T
So our pal Timmy T has started a new Friday night party at Aqua Shi. He had been doing a thing at Roe, but I guess he got dumped for a way-too-early Halloween party with a Hustler model. So he ranted about it on MySpace and is giving Friday nights one more try at Aqua Shi, where apparently it’s one of those VIP things that everybody invited to. One way or another, this oughta be entertaining.
5. KEEP ON JERKIN’
I thought all these jerkin’ events would have passed by now, but I guess Fresno is really into this stuff. I saw a bunch of kids downtown last weekend during Re:FUSE trying to find Star Palace, where there was a jerkin’ concert. There’s another tonight at Crest. Get your skinny jeans!
