Concert Watch: Fuse Fest dates, the rockin’ Crest Theatre, B-52s, Fat Joe and more

Lots of concert news and tidbits to share, so let’s not waste any time.

FUSE FEST: SAVE THE DATE
No lineup to announce yet, but this year’s Fresno Urban Sound Experience (or Fuse Fest) is set for Oct. 2-3. Yes, that’s one day longer than last year’s initial offering. I’m also hearing that the number of venues has expanded, despite the loss of Milano. Go Fresno!

HEAD’S UP
Brian “Head” Welch, the ex-Korn guitartist who took a Godly turn, is bringing his solo tour to Babylon on Aug. 18. He released both an album and a book titled “Save Me From Myself” after leaving Korn.

NUMBSKULL + THE CREST
Numbskull Productions has a couple of cool rock shows headed to the Crest Theatre coming up. Metal act Five Finger Death Punch is there on Sept. 23. Shadows Fall, Otep and Two Cents are also on the bill. Tickets cost $18 and are on sale starting at 10 a.m. Saturday (8/15) through vallitix.com or at SBI and Retro Rag.

The Crest is also hosting an Oct. 10 date with A Day To Remember. Parkway Drive, In Fear & Faith and I See Stars are on that bill. Tickets are on sale now and cost $17.

STUFF YOUR PARENTS MIGHT BE INTO
So be a good son/daughter and buy them tickets …

DOWNTOWN DOUBLE-HEADER
Downtown Visalia has an interesting double-dip of music scheduled for Sept. 26 — as the funky Average White Band plays a free outdoor concert, followed by a night at The Cellar Door with rockabilly dude Lee Rocker (known for his work with the Stray Cats).

MORE ‘ROCK LOBSTER’

After selling out Table Mountain Casino earlier this year, The B-52s are coming back to the Valley, for a Sept. 22 date at the Visalia Fox Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and cost $45-$65

YOUR MIND IS NOT PLAYING TRICKS ON YOU
Hip-hop group Jedi Mind Tricks is due in Fresno for a Aug. 24 date at Starline. Expect militant backpack rap that fans of Wu-Tang Clan and Immortal Technique oughta dig. Promoter Numbskull did a good job of taking me back to my college radio days by adding Esoteric and Reef the Lost Cauze to the bill.

REMEMBER WHEN FAT JOE WASN’T A COMPLETE JOKE?
You might not, but I do. Anyway, he’s performing Sept. 3 at Aldo’s … which seems about right. If you happen to know somebody who would care about that.

FOR JESUS’ BIRTHDAY
Christian rocker Toby Mac is bringing his Winter Wonder Slam tour to Selland Arena on Dec. 17. It also features Relient K, Stephanie Smith and B. Reith. Ticket sales start at 10 a.m. Aug. 14. Ticket prices have yet to be announced.

FOR GUITAR LOVERS
If you’re hardcore guitar fan, you probably already know about Exeter’s Orange Blossom Junction and its devotion to bringing great guitar players into its venue. Well, they’ve announced a new batch of shows:

FOR YOUR CHILDRENS

Hey, it beats the Jonas Brothers, right? Disney Channel kid-pop quartet Imagination Movers is bringing its first concert tour to Saroyan Theatre on Dec. 9. Tickets cost $25-$35 and go on sale starting at 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 15).

SPANSPEK: SAVE THE DATE
Things are also shaping up for this year’s Spanspek Music and Art Festival in Orosi. They’ve got a nice-looking flier and a lineup set. It’s Sept. 18, with Opus Dai headlining. There’s also a fund-raiser concert on Aug. 29 at Milano.

brodiemash says:

D.I.T.C. at Aldo’s, huh? Amaze me…

spursofire says:

I know two bands that are lined up for FUSE: Motel Drive and the Suppressors. Just a heads up!

Diablo says:

You could drop Five Finger Death Punch and still have a great show. Otep and Shadows Fall are bad a$$. Five Finger doesn’t hold a candle to the singers old band Motogrator.

No tix price on the Welch flyer, weakness… Take the Korn emblem off your flyer dude, why you still claiming Korn?

Most excellent line ups, might even be able to go see imagination movers with the fam…

lisa says:

Besides Brokencyde, The Millionaires also get the award for the WORST BAND EVER. Thanks for posting! Can’t wait for A Day To Remember. They’ll be on Warped Tour next week as well :)

Diablo says:

Local band Downword is on the Warped tour as well!!!

Mike Oz says:

The Welch show is $25 for regular tix and $55 for VIP tix that include autographs and meet-n-greet and stuff.

I’m gonna be playing some violin/accordian music at the FUSE fest.

Headbanging is appropriate.

Diablo says:

Let me Correct Myself, DownWord DownWord DownWord DownWord

that’s how you spell it

Diablo says:

Thanks dude

blake says:

I’m gonna be playing some theremin at the B-52′s show—oh WAIT, no, that was just in my dreams.
Wouldn’t it be cool though?
Is that SoundsNVision man reading this post?
Gimme a call!
(laughs)

Cristobal says:

Word on the street is that The Escorts will be playing FUSE fest as well.
