The Ladies of NoTown: Kyra Praktor

We know you love to meet your local roller derby team, so we’re introducing you to five more members of the NoTown Roller Derby squad this week, just as did back in May.

The team is back home this Saturday, taking on The Diamond Divas of Bakersfield. Central Valley bragging rights will most certainly be on the line at Fresno Fairgrounds. Doors open at 6 p.m.

We’ll start our series today with Kyra Praktor.

Real Name: Ruste M. Jenkins, D.C.
Age: 30
Number: 300.10

How did you get involved in roller derby?
I began volunteering as the team doctor last summer and couldn’t hold back anymore after watching a girl from Reno spit in one of our pivot’s face!

What’s your worst derby injury?
I would say it was more internal in nature. At practice last year I had a fall with one of our girls and I landed right on her wheel in a place where wheels do not belong. Ouch!

Proudest moment during a bout?
When fans from the other team got REALLY excited when I was sent to the penalty box because I was knocking the crap out of the girls they were rooting for.

What time of reactions do you get when people find out you do derby?
The typical response from people is “well, of course you do!” When the shoe fits…

What’s your life like away from roller derby?
Crazy busy! I have three children from ages 2-7, a great husband and part-time chiropractic practice. When I am not knee-deep with all that (and derby) I am doing my best to have the best time possible.

How was roller derby changed your life?
Certainly made it a lot busier. Being so many things to so many people has been difficult. Becoming a derby girl helps me to keep a strong hold onto who I am, what I am and most importantly, why I am.

Finish this sentence: The best thing about being a NoTown derby girl is …
four things: fishnets, mini skirts, knocking the crap out of girls, and doing all of those at the same time!!

Food: grilled eggplant and olives
Band: anything brazilian
TV Show: Paranormal State
Toy as a kid: soccer ball
Place to eat in Fresno: Sam’s Deli!!!

Water slides or roller coasters? Roller coasters
Coke or Pepsi? Coke
Mini Golf or Bowling? Can you drink beer with mini golf?
Star Wars or Lord of the Rings? Harry Potter
Fresno summers or Fresno winters? Winter without a doubt.

Here are more details on NoTown Roller Derby’s Saturday night bout against Bakersfield. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Fresno Fairgrounds.

we loooovvvveeee our kyra praktor.
she’s such a spitfire out there on the track, but she’s got a heart of gold.(don’t tell the other team that until after the bout) when she started last year she reinvented our core training and taught us new ways to build up key muscle groups. oh yeah, and she aligns our twisted spines.
