Weekend Rewind: Rallying, Revving and Roller Derbying

I caught a cold. What did you do this weekend?

Did you head to one of the gay marriage rallies? There was the pro rally on Saturday and the anti rally on Sunday. Here’s a video from Saturday by The Bee’s John Walker.

This weekend also gave us the inaugural Fulton RevFest. As much as I wanted to, I didn’t make it over there. I heard good things, though. Anybody want to tell us more? In the meantime, here’s a photo slideshow from The Bee’s Darrell Wong.

Over at the fairgrounds, NoTown Roller Derby crushed the Prison City Derby Dames. Betty Rocker was hurt for a short time, but returned. Mia Luv Ulong Ty (on loan from the V-Town Derby Dames) took the place of injured Hari Kari and jammed her way into the hearts of Fresno fans. Attendance was reported at 859.

In other derby news: NoTown is having a “fun-raiser” at Sweet Tomatoes tonight and V-Town has a bout this weekend.

i was wondering about the possibility of her being on loan. we were sitting by a group wearing v-town gear, and they were chatting with her quite a bit between periods. maybe we can buy out her contract.

and while we’re moving visalians to fresno, or at least getting them on loan, maybe visalia will loan us aaron gomes for a while.

Looks like those prison city girls didnt stand a chance!
Way to go Fresno!

Abe Lopez says:

I went to both days of RevFest. Had a good time. A lot of nice bikes, music and food. How can you go wrong with that?

Karma says:

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us we really appreciate it.
There were many roller derby leagues representing on saturday. Not only NoTown, Prison City, and Visalia but Bakersfield (Derby Revolution) was there as well.
Pixie the Punisher (also on loan from Visalia) asked me “Are your crowds always so awesome? They’re actually following the game!”

Thanks Fresno for being so awesome!

Karma says:

oh yeah, iforgot to mention that NoTown will be helping our sisters from visalia on saturday at their bout. come out and join us!

Just wanted to pile on with what Abe said…I was there both days…Rev Fest was a lot of fun. You can’t go wrong when MoFo Party Band plays!

I was also at the MITM event. There were many people! I was approached by passengers, some Cornerstone church members, and a LA Times reporter who wanted to know why I was there. Needless to say, I wasn’t quoted.

The giant rainbow flag was caught on a light post and a small crowd of concerned onlookers cheered when a combination of wind and the lift operators actions released it.

And did I mention the humidity?
