It seems like the biggest concern of everyone involved with making “Burlesque” was meeting Cher. Even superstar Christina Aguilera found herself with a bad case of butterflies before she came face-to-face with the pop icon.
Cam Gigandet, who plays Jack, the bartender/pianist in “Burlesque,” jokes that it was Cher who was the nervous one during their first meeting. He goes so far as to say that she was shaking.
Then reality returns.
“I was nervous meeting Cher, because it’s Cher obviously,” Gigandet says.
It took all of 30 seconds for her to calm his nerves.
“I’m sitting there talking to her and she’s just so relaxed and just one of the coolest chicks I have ever met. And I keep having to remind myself that, ‘Wait, this is Cher. You’re talking to Cher.’ It was a surreal moment,” Gigandet says.
The actor – best known for playing James in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” – was working on the action film “Priest” before getting cast in the musical. He’d slip over to the “Burlesque” stage, in a leather cowboy outfit dirty from killing vampires, to hear Christina Aguilera sing.
That’s when he knew he had to be part of the movie. All he had to do was survive meeting Cher.
