If you will refer to your Map Of Metal, under the entry for Traditional Doom Metal you’ll find a band called Saint Vitus. The band, which features doom-metal icon Scott “Wino” Weinrich, just announced dates for its 35th anniversary tour and they include a May 15 date at Strummer’s. Tickets go on sale 9 a.m. Friday online and at Strummer’s (during normal business hours).
The band will be playing its iconic “Born to Late” album in its entirety.
Portland’s Son of Huns play support for the tour.
Doom metal is a heavy-metal off-shoot, the spawn of Black Sabbath, and cousin to the contemporary stoner rock sub-genre. Saint Vitus were doom metal pioneers. I saw Wino’s other band The Obsessed in the ’90s. They played Motorhead’s “Iron Horse/Born to Lose” and for a high school kid cutting his teeth on the metal scene it was madness in the best possible way.
