You rate the look: Olympic posters

OK, so it’s not a fashion “You rate the look,” but I thought it would be fun to get some opinions on these Olympic posters for the 2012 games in London, which were released today.

This photo shows the 12 official poster images designed by 12 British artists: (top row, from the left) Anthea Hamilton, Bob and Roberta Smith, Bridget Riley, Chris Ofili, (second row, from the left) Gary Hume, Howard Hodgkin, Martin Creed, Fiona Banner, (bottom row, from the left) Michael Craig Martin, Rachel Whiteread, Sarah Morris and Tracey Emin.

The posters will be put on display at a free exhibition at the Tate Britain museum as part of the London 2012 festival, a big arts festival that runs in conjunction with the Olympics from July 27-Aug. 12. You can buy the art here.

I like the different approaches to the art, and that the posters don’t necessarily make me think of sports right away. The shapes and lines give the feel of energy and movement, without the sports idea being so obvious.

What do you think?

These posters are totally hilarious, completely rubbish, I could not stop laughing. They look like they were all drawn by 5 year olds, the artists are having a right old laugh at our expense thats for sure! Extremely amused by this total rubbish………….LOL

Mike Oz says:

I think it’s really missing a piece of modern poster design: Half naked women and bottles of alcohol.

If it’s good enough for nightclubs, it’s good enough for the Olympics.

Kevin the Kritic says:

Well, now it’s not just England’s cuisine thats going to be known for being completely off the wall! Boiled chicken and horrid art with crumpets for breakfast, anyone?
