One of my favorite things to do on Friday night after working a long week is head to my neighborhood Mexican restaurant El Matador.
Just down the block from my house, it’s a small family-owned restaurant in the corner of the strip-mall shopping center at Shaw and Armstrong, where Save Mart and CVS is located. The food and service are consistent and good. But most of all, I love the frosty and fabulous beer.
I don’t know if you can tell from the photo, but the beer is served in a frosted mug. When they fill the mug, ice crystals form on the top of the beer. It’s super cold, and super good.
Some other points about El Matador’s food:
- You can order food to go.
- They take credit cards.
- The meals with beans and rice are pretty big, so consider sharing or ordering la carte if you’re not looking for a lot to eat.
- They’re not usually open past 9 p.m. (It’s a Clovis thing that drives me crazy but is what it is).
So if you’re in the mood for some decent (maybe not up to the Mike Oz standard for tacos) of Mexican food, and/or a frosty, cold awesome brew, I suggest trying El Matador. Frosty Fridays, as I like to call it, is one of my faves for a quick, relaxing beer fix after a hard week of work.
