The Super-sized Forever 21 is open

Fresno is now home to one of the biggest Forever 21 stores there is. It’s GIANT, people. At 150,000 square feet, over three stories, it’s even bigger than the store in New York City’s Time Square. That tidbit from Bee reporter Bethany Clough’s story in today’s paper really made an impression — and makes me eager to go check the store out.

The super-sized store is all part of new concept for Forever 21. From the story:

The new store features the company’s most recent design prototype. It’s the latest move in the retailer’s strategy to turn itself into a department store. It hopes to attract new customers with its larger stores, and long-term plans call for making every shopper a Forever 21 customer, Meyer said.

As the chain evolves, its new items will be showcased in Fresno, he said.

“We used to be only trendy,” he said. “Now we have basics as well as trendy merchandise. We have active wear, casual wear, urban [clothing].”

Here are a few photos from Bee photographer Mark Crosse:

The basic section. Notice the $3.50 price tag.

Forever 21 really made over the old Gottschalks store. Look at all the decorations — and that fun checkered tile.

And with all that room to spread out, it sounds like they’re creating sections based on styles of clothing.

I like the fact that Forever 21 plans to bring new products to Fresno to test out, and that they plan to change out the merchandise more often than just by season.

I’d love to hear your impressions of the store. And, for anyone going Saturday, you can grab a coupon off the Fresno Bee’s homepage by clicking on the Forever 21 ad that drops down or by checking page A5 of today’s print edition.

I hope it lasts. Forever 21 has been expanding way too quickly over the past 3 years and it would be a shame to see them get burned by it.

This is good news, finally a place for people (women) to get reasonably priced clothing, Im surprised macys and all the over priced stores at fashion fair didnt start crying when this store announced they were going to move in

I still miss Gottschalks. Forever 21′s clothes are cheap for a reason- cheap quality. It’s the kind of clothes you were once or twice and that’s it. I’ve gone to the other store and the only thing I end up buying are there accessories.
