I asked Marcial Marmolejo, the executive director of Fresno FashionWeek, to tell me more about his plans to showcase local fashion and boutiques.
How did FFW come about?
There really is no better way to say this than I’ve always been wanting to put together an event of some sort whether it be a theatrical production, a fashion show, or a concert. Many ideas came to mind but none of them developed into a fruitful concept with a future. It wasn’t until I was watching TV and saw a commercial for LA Fashion Week that I came up with the idea of bringing a similar concept to the Central Valley.
What is the purpose of the event?
The purpose of the event is to showcase the many fashions, trends, and styles throughout Fresno and the Central Valley. We hope to cover some local designers and trendy clothing lines that have roots in the valley while also including some fashionable boutiques that wouldn’t normally in other way have the ability to set up a fashion show of their own. Major sponsorships are also lined up to have exposure of some type or another.
Tell me more about the organizers:
Initially I began the journey to bring FashionWeek to the Central Valley by myself. 300 CONCEPTS is the name of my company that will plan/coordinate/execute these events. While I got the ball rolling, I was also able to team up with many old college friends of mine and professional relationships whose specialty and background vary from event planning, fashionable experiences, and a media/marketing background.
