Just how big a fan are you of “The Hobbit”?
The second chapter in the trilogy from director Peter Jackson — “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” — opens at 12:01 a.m. tonight. If you are too wimpy to stay up that late, there will be multiple screenings at theaters up and down the Central San Joaquin Valley at a more respectable hour starting Friday.
Here’s the test of a real fan. In Fresno, the UA Broadway Faire 10, Regal Manchester Stadium and Edwards Fresno Stadium 22 are offering a double feature that includes the first film in the series, “The Hobbit: And Unexpected Journey,” and the new movie starting at 8:30 tonight. The cost is $20.
At Edwards, you can upgrade to “Hobbit 2 Super Ticket” that includes a digital HD copy of “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” when it becomes available next year. You also will get an immediate digital download of “The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey.”
The Sierra Vista Cinemas 16, Clovis, and the Regal Visalia Stadium 10, Visalia, also have double features starting at 8:30 p.m. The double feature at Hanford’s Cinemark Movies 8 starts at 9 tonight.
