Classical music preview

Inon Barnatan Photo: Marco Borggreve

UPDATE 9/24: I’ve added a few more entries in my classical listings.

ORIGINAL POST 9/22: In the Sunday Spotlight section I give a peek at the array of musical options for classical covers coming up in the 2013-14 season.

One of those is the opening Masterworks offering next weekend from the Fresno Philharmonic — an all-Tchaivkovsky program that includes guest artist Inon Barnatan (pictured) performing the Piano Concerto No. 2. Included in my mini-profile of Barnatan is a nod to some of the season’s big offerings, including Sarah Chang, Lynn Harrell, Van Cliburn gold medalist Vadym Kholodenko and an original opera by Jack Fortner.

Here are links and text to as many full season schedules as I could compile:

FRESNO PHILHARMONIC
The Masterworks lineup includes Barnatan, Chang, Orion Weiss, the Fresno Community Chorus Master Chorale in a Wagner extravaganza, Wu Man and the Youth Orchestras of Fresno. The pops series highlights Paul McCartney music, the sounds of Christmas and Cirque de la Symphonie. Full Masterworks schedule / Full Pops schedule

KEYBOARD CONCERTS
My interview with piano great Leon Fleishman, who kicks off the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series on Sunday, was in Friday’s 7 section.
