Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

Other than tweet-stalking Tim DeRuyter.

1. DRINK SOME POISON
Not literally, but go see Poor Man’s Poison at Audie’s Olympic on Saturday night. If you missed the news, PMP recently made the finals of the Texaco Country Showdown. They’ll be competing in Nashville in January, but you can see them Saturday as part of a genre-defying show with Before Perils and Brian Kenney Fresno. [More]

BONUS: This will be another good show at Audie’s Olympic.

2. HAVE A STRANGE FLING
Another local band doing well for itself nowadays is Strange Vine. They’ve been playing a bunch of dates around the state lately, but are back in town tonight sharing the Fulton 55 stage with their Long Beach rock pals The Fling. Oughta be a good one. [More]

3. GET CAUGHT UP IN A ROCK ORGY
The Electric Winterland event Saturday at The Loft in the Tower District is an all-ages rock/EDM event with three stages, 13 bands and nine DJs. Headlining is reformed ’90s band Orgy, plus there’s the local band From the Fallen who returns to the scene with its new album, “Pulse.” Local rockers Slit Wrist Theory and Small Town Killer also play reunion gigs. [More]

4. JOIN IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT
As I told you yesterday, a lot of the Christmas events get going this weekend — like Christmas Tree Lane (walk night on Saturday). Today’s Bee has a quite large guide of Christmas events that you should peruse. Here’s one that’s not in the guide but you might dig, happening Saturday at Banker’s Ballroom. [More]

5. HEAD TO VISALIA
Visalia’s dependable Cellar Door concert venue has a pair of good shows this weekend you should know about: garage rocker King Tuff tonight and indie rock band Rah Rah on Saturday. Either one would be a good live-music destination. [More]

Aileen Imperatrice says:

As some of you have already heard, Tony is unable to perform this concert tonight due to a sudden illness that had him in the hospital yesterday. The decision was made to not go through with the Christmas Tradition concert tonight in Fresno, nor the one tomorrow in Selma. We are rescheduling to a later date in December. So everyone who has a ticket for tonight or tomorrow can hold onto them and they will be good for the rescheduled performances. And if you hadn’t bought one yet, then at least this gives you another chance. Look to future posts for updates. Please share this message with anyone you know who has either bought a ticket or was planning on going to either concert. Thank You!
