Sometimes an image from the never-ending Facebook stream stops me in my tracks. That’s the case with this photo posted by Annette Simmons of Fresno. It’s of her husband, Greg, and their 21-year-old daughter, Katie, at Half Moon Bay. (It was taken by Katie’s sister, 15-year-old Kelly.)
I’ll tell you why I love this photo: It captures, without ostentation or premeditation, the bliss of sticking one’s feet in the surf. I love Katie’s posture, how she’s leaning on her dad for support but not afraid to get wet, the way she’s stretching to occupy two worlds: land and sea. This is why we drive three-plus hours to commune with the Pacific Ocean.
