Train Depot picks new home

The Train Depot restaurant burned in April. It will have a new home soon.

After a fire that destroyed the Train Depot restaurant in April, fans of the restaurant (and there are a lot of them) will be happy to know the restaurant will reopen in a new location. It will take over the former Fresno Breakfast House space on Ashlan Avenue near First Street.

But don’t go there yet. The owners have lots of work to do on the spot and won’t open for another month or two, says owner Pat Escovedo.

She had originally planned to reopen the popular breakfast and lunch spot after their building was rebuilt on First Street just north of McKinley. But with a projected opening date of May 2014, Escovedo said she just couldn’t wait that long. Rather than open somewhere temporarily, she decided to make the 3045 E. Ashlan Ave. spot a permanent home.

She’s been collecting train memorabilia to replace all that was lost in the fire. But she’s not collecting that much, she says, because she knows customers will be bringing in all sorts of items to decorate the restaurant.
