Win tickets to ‘The Nutcracker’
If it’s Thanksgiving weekend in Fresno, one thing is for sure: It’s “Nutcracker” time. The Valley Performing Arts Council presents its annual production of the holiday classic Saturday and Sunday at the Saroyan. As in years past, it features the full company of the Sacramento Ballet along with a small army of Valley children who have been working diligently for months.
To celebrate the production, I’m giving away a “family pack” of four tickets to each of this weekend’s three productions. To enter, leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite “Nutcracker” memory. (Or, if you’ve never seen it, tell us why you’d like to.) Include which of the three performances you’d like to attend: 1 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Saturday, or 1 p.m. Sunday. (If all three are OK, you can indicate that.) I’ll pick three comments at random. Each winner will receive four tickets.
Please enter only once. Deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday. Be sure to check your email, because that’s how I’ll inform winners. Complete rules are on the jump.

I took my daughter last year for the first time and she loved it. My son is old enough now and I’d love to take him. Sunday at 1pm would be lovely!
So, when I was a kid, I was obsessed with ballet, and so, of course, my favorite story was the Nutcracker. I am now 41 years old and have NEVER seen it live – it would be a fantastic treat to see the 7pm Saturday performance with my own kids!
My favorite is the Arabian Coffee. My daughter went several years in a row when she was little, it is time to re-enjoy this classic
My daughters just started taking ballet lessons. It would be great thing to do as a father daughter date.
When my children were young, The Nutcracker was an annual outing. We would dress up in our holiday best and attend a performance. It is always a magical time to experience the music and dance through a child’s eyes.
I would love to take my granddaughter for a girl’s day out. She has never been to a ballet.
I remember going to see this as a kid with my school, I would love the chance to take my wife and nieces, any time would be great.
The Nutcracker always reminds me of my oldest Daughter dancing her ballet. She started dancing when she was 3 and continued throught the middle of this year. She is now in college and has no time however the Nutcracker is a dance that she always loved and when I see or hear the music it always reminds me of my little balerina.
I would love to go and take my family. Saturday or Sunday it doesn’t matter, I will make time to go. lol
I’ve never had the opportunity to see the ballet and have always wanted to. When I was a little girl, I was in ballet and we did a mini version of this production and I fell in love with the arts! I’ve tried passing at least the appreciation of ballet, opera and other arts to my kids but seeing it in person is a lot different than on television.
Any day and time to see this, is good for me!
I have seen The Nutcracker many time on the telly (even as a cartoon) but never live. Any time is good…I would make it work.

I have two neices who both danced in this ballet. Every time I hear the music it reminds me of seeing them on stage. Sunday at 1 p.m. would be great.
I have never been able to enjoy a live performance and would LOVE to take my two young daughters. We have watched many recorded versions, most recently by the Pacific Northwest Ballet & Barbie. My daughters loves to watch Clara defeat the Mouse King! Any of the times are OK, thank you!
I’ve never seen the Nutcracker but my 6 year old granddaughter has taken up ballet and it would be a great experience for her to see it.
My parents took my brothers and I to see it in Long beach a long time ago, 20+ years ago, Not really thinking much of how much it coast them, we didn’t have much money. Now i would like to take my mother after a long time.
