Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

In addition to checking out the new Saturday night Carthop at the downtown ice rink.

1. WAIL WITH THE WAILERS
The name that every reggae fan knows — The Original Wailers — is at Fulton 55 tonight. Sure, Bob Marley is long gone, but his guitarist Al Anderson carries the Wailers torch these days. Local band Irie Sun opens. So get up, stand up, go see a show. [More]

2. GET GRIZZLY WITH FASHAWN
Here’s the big local hip-hop event of 2012 — Fashawn’s Grizzly Fest at Fresno Fairgrounds. We talked about this at length with Fashawn already, so go read that. Then prepare yourself for a booming night of beats and rhymes that celebrates both our local hip-hop scene and rappers from around the state. And, yeah, it’s all-ages, so you youngsters are welcome. [More]

3. ADD SOME VROOM TO YOUR WEEKEND
It’s time for the annual Central California Auto Show, happening today-Sunday at the Fresno Convention Center. Here’s the headline for this year: Admission is free, every day, for everybody.  Go look at cars — both the practical ones you might by one day and the crazy special ones you’ll never ever get to drive. It runs 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. [More]

4. SEE WHAT KATT WILLIAMS WILL DO NEXT
Comedian Katt Williams — who was arrested Thursday morning in Oakland — is due at Save Mart Center on Saturday night. Haven’t heard anything to indicate he won’t be here, but with this guy, it seems like you never know what’s going to happen. So Fresno, let’s all agree not to get in a fight with Katt Williams, OK? [More]

5. GET SOME JESUS IN YOUR LIFE
After Katt Williams, the Save Mart Center does a big about-face on Sunday when it hosts Winter Jam, a touring festival of Christian rock acts. (Maybe Katt will stick around and get some Jesus in his life?) Winter Jam includes Tobymac, Sidewalk Prophets, Newsong and more. Tickets cost $10 and they’re ONLY available at the door the day of the show. [More]

BONUS: This really cool up-and-coming L.A. band named Sir Sly is at Visalia’s The Cellar Door on Saturday with Fresno alt-rock bands Sea of Sound. My radio show is “presenting” this one. It should be good. I really dig Sir Sly’s debut single “Ghosts.” 8 p.m. $5.
