‘Twilight’ fans line up for finale

Hundreds of “Twilight” fans started lining up as early as 5 a.m. in front of theaters across the city to get the best seats to see tonight’s early showings of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2.” The film is the finale of the film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer books.

Many of those fans are spending the day watching a marathon of the four previous movies being shown leading up to the new film.

“We wanted to get a good seat for tonight’s film and it’s easier to sit in theater than wait out here in line,” says Fresno’s Yajajra Solorzano who showed up at 5 a.m. at the Regal Manchester Stadium 16.

More than 30 of tonight’s late-night screenings — starting at 10 p.m. — are sold out but a few seats still remain. The theaters also have the option of adding more screens than in the past because the first showings are at 10 p.m. Additional midnight screenings remain a possibility.

The “Twilight” finale is on track to a huge box office opening weekend. Fandango, the online site for ticket purchases, reported that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2” represented 92% of Thursday’s ticket sales, with thousands of showtimes sold out across the country.

“It’s the most anticipated movie going event of the season,” said Paul Yanover, President of Fandango, “and our surveys indicate that the action in ‘Part 2’ may be driving new moviegoers to see the grand finale.”

There were 44 sold out midnight showings of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1” in Fresno just over a year ago.
