The Dave Matthews Band is finalllllly coming to Fresno
UPDATE: Tickets will go on sale locally at 10 a.m. March 13, per the Save Mart Center. All seats will cost $65.
ORIGINAL: It's the news you've waiting years for, Fresno fans of Dave Matthews. Dave & Co. will play the Save Mart Center on Aug. 30, according to a new summer tour itinerary released this afternoon.
The band is releasing a new still-untitled CD on June 2 and backing that up with a summer tour. For the tour as a whole, tickets will go on sale March 12-14, according to Dave's people. No word yet on a local on-sale date and ticket price. There will be a special "online ticket request period" from Thursday though March 2 at warehouse.davematthewsband.com, which is the band's members-only fan club site.

Um....YES! Haven't seen them in a couple of years and now I don't have to drive nearly as far. Awesome, awesome news.

holy birkenstocks batman!

Apparently this is heresy...but aren't they just a wee bit...overrated? (am now ducking for the oncoming slings and arrows)

I hope they don't pour their sewage in our beloved downtown river...oh, wait, never mind!!!

Never been a Dave Matthews fan, but any concert coming to Fresno is a good thing.
But I'm with you John. Never could understand what the big deal was about him.

any word on who's opening?
they usually get cool supporting acts...
Posted by: Tudor S. at February 18, 2009 3:15 PM
@Tudor: Not sure yet. The San Francisco (the day before us) and Fresno dates don't have openers listed. Switchfoot is opening SoCal dates a few weeks later.
Other openers on the tour: Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Robert Earl Keen, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Hold Steady, The Avett Brothers, Jason Mraz and Robert Earl Keen.
Worth noting: Both the Avetts and Keen are playing in Hanford soon.

@ Travis - ha ha. That's funny stuff.
I'm pulling for the Robert Earl King opener. That dude is awesome.
And DMB, although the legends are extremely legendary, they are some talented folks.
and them with Eminem was sweet, although it didn't seem too much like DMB could handle the Em...

OMG!!! This is awesome!!! :)

.yaaaaaaay.
(seriously... this should be a good show... (they're a little past their 'wunderband' phase, --but their lives shows are usually amazing...
-one thing I'm kind of wondering, though...
They just lost their sax player not too long ago... -who's replacing him (and) is he as good?
Ineresting openners too... Switchfoot(Christian Band, actually,) Robert Randolph (another believer), Robert Earl Keen (really great performer,) and Avett Bro's (who are ASTONISHING performers...(still one of the greatest shows I've seen in quite some time (Hanford Fox Theatre.)
-This may be one of the better tickets (musicianship wise) to come through in a while.

@Chris: Keen is also playing March 21 at the Hanford Fox. More here
@towel: Just so we're clear, not ALL those people are opening the show. Those are just some of the openers in other cities.

im sure the clogs w/ socks and cargo short wearers of clovis are very excited.

Thanks OZ... linked it in my blog too. He's a great guy, I've had the pleasure of meeting him before, and $25 bucks is totally worth seeing him. He's got complete command of the guitar.

The bus driver will probably just nail the people below the Fresno Street overpass.

...erm, I know (that they were just the openners at different shows, not all at same time,)
I'm just saying that they're all excellent choices,
and good groupings in terms of talent...
Old Crow Medicine Show really doesn't do anything for me,
-and I havn't heard of the Hold Steady, --but I do think, based on DM's quality of musicianship? that they'd be worth checking out.
What's sort of funny about Dave Matthews (as a band) fans-wise? --Yeah, he gets claimed by a lot of neo-hippies (or attributed to the ivy/ganga league crowd, ---but he's one of those performers, where, if anyone really listened to him, (and definitely) caught a show, live? They'd be like: 'whoah, that was great.'
---and it has nothing to do with him being a pied piper to some 'crowd,'
---it's just that he's an excellent musician, surrounded by excellent musicians putting out good stuff.

I don't go to see a person, I go to see a show and be entertained.
Any reason to consume mass quantities of mass produced alcoholic beverages or mixed drinks, is reason enough to go.
I saw MC Hammer at McNichols Arena (complete with After 7)....nuff said
I digress, I won't ever be hearing DM cause I'm playing it, though.
