arrow Beehive poll: What's your all-time favorite Beatles song?

beatles.jpgAs Fresno gears up this weekend for full-fledged Beatles mania -- thanks to the Fresno Philharmonic's "Classical Mystery Tour" Saturday at the Saroyan -- I thought it'd be an appropriate time to check in with fans of the Fab Four.

The poll question: What's your favorite Beatles song, and why?

I'll be using some of the responses in my cover story, scheduled for this Friday's issue of 7, about the event, which will feature expert Beatles impersonators backed by the full orchestra.

An update on tickets: Will reports that he tried to buy them today and was out of luck:

On my lunch break today, I went to the Fresno Phil's box office (at 2377 W. Shaw, Ste. 101, not the Convention Center, as I learned last week), and I was told there are zero seats left for the Beatles show. They've sold out. This appeared to be news to the woman who looked it up, because it wasn't until after checking that she realized there were no available tickets. I was under the impression that these concerts rarely sell out, so this must be great news for the Phil; bad news for me."

Sadly for Will, he isn't eligible to win the prime pair of tickets (Orchestra, Row O!) that I'll be giving away to the concert later today on the Beehive. Keep watching for my contest post.

My 13-year-old daughter is obsessed with the Beatles.
Up til she was 8 I had her convinced that the tribute band, 1964, was the real deal. When she found out John Lennon was dead, she didn't talk to me for 3 days.
Her favorite song is "Hey Jude" so I have to say that would be my favorite too!
I could possibly be the worlds greatest mom if I won those tickets for her and I!

I've always loved "I am the Walrus." The lyrics in that song are so far out but yet they work.

I have a different favorite Beatles song for each day of the week:

Monday: Dear Prudence
Tuesday: Norwegian Wood
Wednesday: Rocky Raccoon
Thursday: Sexy Sadie
Friday: She Loves You

On the weekends I listen to the Rolling Stones.

this begs the question:" is classical music dead?"

My favorite is All You Need Is Love, because it's true. Until your old lady doesn't Carry That Weight and you tell her You Never Give Me Your Money. She wants to be a Paperback Writer but is frequently found in the middle of Golden Slumbers and claims to be Only Sleeping.

Now we all live in a Yellow Submarine and your nickname is Mean Mr. Mustard. Dr. Robert says there's no hope and Ob La Di Bla Da isn't getting you anywhere.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - it gives me goosebumps - every single time I hear it.

If I had to pick just one it would be "Hey Jude" but I also really like "Ticket to Ride".

Back in the late 90's there was an L.A. AM radio station that played nothing but the Beatles. That was bliss.

"She Said She Said"---though there are ceratinly a multitude of other contenders out of the 200 or so songs they recorded.
That song is remarkable. Shifting time signatures, chiming guitars, lovely 'beatle-esque'[haha] harmonies and drumming that makes you join in on the dashboard or coffee table (depending where you're listening).

have to go with either "Blackbird" or "Eleanor Rigby", with "Helter Skelter" mixed in somewhere...

The greatness of the Beatles is undenied.. I've even heard that Elvis was so threatened by them that he tried to have them banned from the country. (I have no idea how true this really is, but after a quick googling have now discovered that it was NIXON, and not the King...)

"Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds" - I never get tired of it, I love the melody and it stays in my head for hours after hearing it. Even now, I hear them singin'.
