arrow Your first look at the 2009 Rogue Festival Muse ....

With the Rogue Festival just a little more than a month away, here's your first glimpse at this year's Rogue Muse, in all its tattoo-inspired glory.

What do you think? Personally, I LOVE it. It's the work of Dominic Barajas, a tattoo artist from Selma and a Rogue rookie. For a little context, here are the past Rogue Muses:

I'm with you, Mike: Outstanding.

I love it so much... I stole it for my blog. It should be noted that each and every one came from a local artist. Vicente Aiello (2002), Daniel Ball (2003), Robert Weibel (2004), Marcos Dorado (2005), Enrique Lopez (2006), Brianna Smeds (2007), Aileen Imperatrice (2008)... just sayin.

Thanks for the names, Marcel. My bad on that one.

But it was hard enough to even find all those old Muses as it was ...

Not your bad at all, Mike. I was happy to do it... as it was an honor to feature their work over the years. (Yeah, the Rogue site should really have a dedicated "muse" page.) Us Rogue "has-beens" can still be useful from time to time... lol.

Fun to see them all lined up like that. Year EIGHT! here we come.

Fantastic Muse! The Rogue just keeps getting better and better all the way around. This years performance line-up is fabulous. Can you feel the excitement already?

Quite possibly my favorite one. It's a toss up between this year's Muse and Rogue 07. Well done!

It's great to hear and see all the enthusiasm everyone has for Rogue! I'm honored to be in the Muse history (thanks for the shout out Mike and Marcel) and I'm really happy to be a part of it. This year's Muse sets the tone for another festival of surprises.

um... since we're giving credit,
--wasn't '07's sort of unusual in that it was a collaborative effort between Brianna and her brother? (who are the couple presented as 'muse?')

My comments, said out loud at my computer to no one in particular (since no one is here):

"Ohhhh my God. I love it. Holy cow. I LOVE it."

Absolutely fantastic. And this is coming from someone who is NOT affiliated with the Rogue this year (I'll be attending and commenting and that's it).

I love it!

@ wet towel - which solidifies my point why the Rogue site should have a dedicated "muse" page with bios, etc.

That being said I will now step back into my useless "has-been" corner because her brother's name escapes me at the moment.

On my list of things to do:
"Muse Archive with Bios"

done and done... we are going to be revamping the website and this is a great suggestion to add to the mix. Thank you!

...arrgh, hold on a minute...

Okay, I can't read the signatures on my '07 poster,
but the copyrights are for:

Brianna Johnson-Smeds
(and)
Tory Johnson

(no shame in not 'membering, Marcel, you've done more than enough in all of this ;) -best to Mum.

This years muse is luscious and vibrant.
I too enjoyed seeing all of the muses together like a family reunion.

Since you're asking, I think its hideous and high schoolish.

I am not a fan of the MUSE this year. The Rogue is such a great venue for speaking out and self expression and with the lips of the MUSE seemingly stitched closed it's rather like saying you will be seen and not heard. I am not sure if this is what the artist is trying to say and I am glad other's are "loving" it. It just personally does nothing for me as it relates to the venue. It reminds me of a bad KISS impersonation. Does anyone know how the Rogue MUSE is selected in the first place? And yes three cheers for keeping it local!

The more I look at it, the more I agree with Andrea.

I do know my first reaction was good.

But I haven't loved other muses before...and I still love the Rogue (as I know Hannah does).

The Rogue MUSE is selected by the Board from submissions given to us from local artists or pieces we've seen around the town. This MUSE was found on the FCASH website, actually.

The image is meant to represent the Day of the Dead and how the women paint their faces in celebration of the Day of the Dead according to our artist.

Any feedback given is appreciated and welcomed, which is why we've opened it up to comments from the public.

Rogue-time is my favorite time of the year in Fresno! It's gonna be a great two weeks and I hope I get to go to alot more shows this year. Everything I saw/heard last year was stimulating and original! You get so much for so little at all the venues.
