Who's going to Bubba Bash '09?
Did you know there's a "Hello Ashley, Bye Bye Bubba" event scheduled for tonight? It's called "Fresno: One City. One Future" and is being billed as a "community-wide inaugural event." It's cool they're trying to have a party -- and one with "live entertainment including live bands" -- but I really feel like it needed a better name. I like Bubba Bash '09.
You can actually buy tickets on Ticketmaster. Though I'm waiting to hear which live bands will be playing before I decide if it's worth $15 and a $6.50 Ticketmaster charge.

Is that "Bubba Bush" or "Bubba Bash" - because they're not exactly the same...

For the record, my comment was in reference to the title of the post, which has since been updated...
As for the $6.50, the email I received said you can avoid that by just buying tickets at the door.

The only band I have heard playing is the 5150 which is made up of local firemen including the Fire Chief.

@AHS: Dang, I was hoping Bubba would bring us some tunes. He was singing some George Jones to me when I was on his radio show the other day.

I plan on attending...I think it is great to participate in things like this. A new administration means a new opportunity for Fresno...
Disclaimer: Recently hired by CoF and possibly biased in my opinion...but I really do like this political stuff

Hey man, just making sure people don't think purchasing through TicketMaster is required - since when are events like this run through TM, anyway? Am I the only one that finds that a bit strange?
Posted by: fresno rock taco at January 5, 2009 2:19 PM
@fresno rock taco: No, I do too, which is why I mentioned it. Short answer, though, is that because it's at the convention center their ticketing is already tied into Ticketmaster, so it was probably just another option.
Though, I'm sure most people are just paying at the door.

I'd go, but I have a few things to rinse out.
But, more importantly...I will be camped out on my front porch awaiting Wednesday morning's Bee...and my favorite yet-to-be-published headline:

i'm wondering if anyone could give any details as to how this event went? i know they were trying to be inclusive, did they pull it off? was it worth $15 price tag?
maybe i'm cynical, but $15 seems a bit much for an event trying to pull all of fresno together.

It was a good event. There were a lot of people there and the cultural dancers were enjoyable. I spend most of my time talking to people and gauging the pulse of the crowd. Surprisingly, Alan Autry was not in attendance, or if he was I did not see him.

I went to the event. As I entered the convention center, Ashley was near the entrance and I got to shake her hand and give her my congratulations. Even though it was the first time I had ever met her, I immediately sensed a powerful future for her and a positive future for our city. All of the proceeds from the ticket sales for the event were donated to the Fresno Rescue Mission, a very worthy cause. The evening was not at all what I had expected,(I didn't know what to expect) it was so much more. There were faith leaders from every denomination present (which is all inclusive, Fresno is extremely diverse) and they all gathered on stage and each one gave a prayer for our city and new mayor elect. I have never seen such a display of diversity AND solidarity in my life. There were at least 20-25 faith leaders and the Jewish rabbi and the Muslim leader both shook hands, if only the Middle East could do that! The entire evening was miraculous and made me realize how disconnected I have been, but what a great start for a new beginning!
