The Culture Bucket: Toilet paper, "Hell's Kitchen" and more
As January comes to a close, here's what caught my attention in recent days:
- Bee business reporter Bethany Clough blogged this week that sales of toilet paper are declining ... Huh? What, um, are people doing?
- Chef Gordon Ramsey is back tonight with the new season of "Hell's Kitchen" on FOX. I can't/don't cook, but -- next to Anthony Bourdain -- the tough, take-no-prisoners Ramsey is my second favorite culinary personality. Can you say donkey?
- Another sign of economic stress -- It's taking a bite out of Girl Scout cookies. (OK, I know, I know. Every headline writer probably used that term.) The cookies will be fewer and smaller. Well, at least it cuts down on calories ... if you eat them by the boxful.
- There's some hope in the labor strife between actors and the studios and producers.
- And, finally, it's the Super Bowl on Sunday: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals. I'm pulling for the underdog Cardinals because wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is flat out amazing.

Comments:
I sincerely hope that our toilet paper is getting thicker, thus we are using less. To believe anything else would lead me to stop shaking people's hands.

I don't think so, Jamie. Somebody over there wanted to know if hand soap sales had risen. I don't think that happened either.

It's pronounced dun-key. My wife and I love Ramsey. She still has a thing for Bourdain, but his schtick has grown tiresome for me. This past season of "No Reservations" was far too stale for my taste. BOOM, CRASH!
