arrow "The Bachelor:" OK, I'm suckered in again

How can you resist ABC's "The Bachelor" when he's Mr. Nice Guy and single dad Jason Mesnick? (I know, I know. The show's track record stinks.) But he's the one who "Bachelorette" DeAnna Pappas rejected last season for now unsurprisingly ex-fiance Jesse Csincsak. At the time, I thought Jason was too boring for DeAnna.

Monday's premiere was the usual mix of strutting out 25 women in a parade of classy to brassy to slutty evening dresses. My fave highlights included dental hygienist Shannon, who told Jason all about the research she did on him but twice added that she's "totally not a stalker." (Yeah, using the term "stalker" on a first meet is always a charming way to break the ice.)

There also was Renee, who uses "vision boards" to determine her life, and poor Sharon who quit her teaching job to meet Jason (not really a smart move in this tough economy.) The saddest case might have been Jackie, a wedding coordinator who got tipsy-wobbly at the party. She was one of the 10 sent home Monday and lamented her fate as a woman who says too many men tell her that she's great but "just not great enough."

Jason didn't pick Renee either, but Shannon (unbelievably) and Sharon got roses to stay.

So I'm hooked, especially since the season preview showed DeAnna popping up in a future episode. Can't wait to see what that's all about.

I'm just glad someone is representing Sharyn/Sharon's for once, haha.

That wedding planner is a nutcase. No WONDER no guy wants to stay with her. Why any of these women think it's a good idea to get drunk on the first meeting is beyond me.

Did you see Jason's face when Shannon went off on his Myspace page stuff? Hahahaha!

It's time ABC came up with a new idea for the Bachelor show. This one has worn itself out. Now what you should be talking about is the drama after the Bachelor, True Beauty!! Now this show is funny! Seeing bimbos like that getting punked is true entertainment!!

Oh, Felicia.

Debi, I confess I also checked out "True Beauty." It was hilarious, not just because of the contestants but because it takes itself so seriously.

I know, Heather. Honest, I really wasn't going to watch the show again, but then they booked Jason and he seems like such a decent guy and he's the first parent to do the show and ... ah, rats, OK, I'm just a reality show junkie.

Felicia, somehow, I too got "rehooked" into this show. I gave up on it seasons ago; but for some reason, this guy intrigued me. We'll see how things go whether I stick with it or not; but, yes ABC, I'm back as a Bachelor viewer!

And, on that note, I watched "True Beauty" too, and loved it! Watching all those "beautiful" people act like jerks is just the mindless entertainment I need for 10pm on a Monday night.

Come on, Heather, give it a try!

"His heart-warming story as a single father from Seattle with a three-year-old son, Ty - the apple of his eye - struck a chord with many women."

that line in his bio brings a tear to my eye. i'm willing to bet in Jason's case, he's not at fault in the divorce with his baby momma. but in for every other man who is not on TV, not rich, or not good looking, they are at fault.

do you have any juicy info on his divorce felicia?

@mdub: Interestingly, I haven't seen much on the ex-wife. But I did see this story that includes a link to a video that Jason's ex, Hilary, appeared in. Also, there's this recent Seattle Post-Intelligencer article about Jason that includes more info on his background (but not any info on why the marriage didn't work).

Oh, and I also found this July excerpt from the Reality TV World blog about Jason's experience on "The Bachelorette." It includes this comment about his ex-wife: "But I'll say the one thing that I know about her is -- it might be similar to DeAnna -- that what they both seem to want in life is something that's a little bit more different than I am, something a little more exciting, like a snowboarder, and in [my ex-wife's] case, something even a little bit different."

What about the fact that they had all the women vote against each other to kick someone off? I thought that part sucked, until they announced she would in fact receive a rose instead of be sent home. I thought twist was awesome. Let's face it folks, we all watch this stuff for the drama. I can't believe DeAnna had the nerve to be involved with this show at all. It will be an amusing season indeed!

Oh yeah, what about the girl that introduced herself and said "I'm from Stockton, it's not that great of a place." Burn!!! I would have expected that from someone from Fresno...hahaha.

I just wonder if The Bachelorette could pull off putting a 30-something single MOM on the show looking for love amongst 25 men? Especially when it gets deeper into the show when the multi-kissing begins.
This show reeks of double-standards. Besides, its kinda gross. Its the lipstick on the pig of Rock of Love Bus.
Sorry Felicia.

No prob, MsJoey. This show is like a guilty pleasure for me. Believe me, I'm not proud of myself. The show is so wrong, but, darn it, this Jason story line has got my attention.

Yeah Felicia, I guess we all have those guilty pleasures. I admit that I dont watch much TV and what I do know about it, I learned on the Hive thanks to you and Heather, BUT I'll be honest, I am addicted to Bret Michaels and his train wreck of hussies! And any show with the words, "charm school", "rock of love" or "flava flav!" in it and I'm all over it!
