arrow Michelle Obama picks a designer ...

Hold on, it's not about her inauguration dresses. That's still being kept under wraps from eager fashionistas. No, the news is that the future First Lady has tapped California interior designer Michael Smith to take charge of revamping the Obamas' living quarters in the White House. His clients reportedly include Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Murdoch. You can read Domino magazine's info on him here.

Judging by Smith's Web site, the hip designer could bring some fresh attitude and style into the historical but staid place. The site includes examples of his designs for homes: "Malibu Beach House," "Beverly Hills," "Los Angeles Hilltop" and "Upstate New York Home." Yeah, those are zip codes we can all relate to.

The decor pictured here is called Hollywood Hills 3. If you want to see more of Smith's work, here's a few more examples off his Web site:

This one is entitled Malibu Beach House 8 ...

And this one is named Upstate New York Home 7 ...

And take a look at Los Angeles Art Deco 2 ...

Or maybe you would prefer Eaton Square Townhome 7 ...

Man, I wonder what kind of digs the new family dog is going to get.

I'm seeing a very Industrial Age meets the French thing going on here --with a lot of 'banker' look.
Some of it doesn't work, but at least it's not hideous.

...and yeah, I can totally relate to Upstate NY Home zipcode... actually ;)

Upstate NY = cold, cold, cold, and this look is cold or I should say hot... It's a good look Felicia!

@ Mr. Incognito: Actually, I really like the looks of Smith's designs. I like how he blends tradition with a clean, contemporary flavor. It's a classy mix of taste, color, glamour and charm. I say glamour but without the over-the-top ostentatiousness that some designers drench rooms with.

But, as for that Upstate New York weather right now? No thank you!

...with all due respects...you kids sooooo don't know what your missing.

-Snowdrifts
-woodfires in the fireplace (that aren't illegal)
-a reason to wear something all the time other than a TShirt and Shorts (though, when chopping up wood for the firestove, you don't even feel it.)
-the crack of a branch in the crisp air
-hot cider, a great book, and a still night...

-hoots from owls (not dope-slingin neighbors)

REAL hawks, (not the Ghetto one's) circling.

Wet Towel, I can appreciate all the other lovely aspects of a winter there. But, me?, I CANNOT take arctic-like climates. I'm a weather wimp.
