10 dresses to die for

The mightiest of fashion designers -- those in haute couture -- delivered their spring summer 2009 collections in Paris this week. No ugliness here. Just pure beauty. Here are 10 dresses of my favorites.

Me too, Bethany. I would LOVE to be able to wear something like that just once.

I also like the fourth dress (it reminds me of a peach-colored gown my Barbie had), and I'm still deciding on the seventh.

I know, I love those big dresses. Plus, could you imagine wearing No. 6 - now that is a wedding dress. Makes me think of the couture dress up scene in the "Sex and the City" movie.

Black with white polka dots is classic. Love the big pink flower on the front...fresh. Wish I could wear something like that, but it would scare children.

1. Gorgeous. Suitably ostentatious, feminine, detailed and classy all in one.

2. meh. Ruffled mini fairy/bat wings with a big fabric rosette? It's not bad, and would make a lovely couture bridesmaid's dress.

3. A sparkly black bell, swinging from an odd place on the waist. Not my favorite. But it's very... er.. forward. I think. Maybe?

4. Awww, now isn't that feminine? That's a red carpet gown, yah?

5. Precisely what I would expect from Jean-Paul Gaultier, even after all these years. Edgy, odd, but I can't help liking it for it's inherent strange femininity. (I'd never wear it, even when I was stick-figure thin and svelte.)

6. Yes. An exquisite wedding dress. Perfect for an elegant bride.

7. OMG! Madonna/Cyndi Lauper of the 80s collided with an 80s mother-of-the-bride dress...and LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!!! Ok... maybe I'm not seeing the detail well enough. That dress probably costs more than a year's worth of my rent. I should probably give it the benefit of the doubt. I'm just having trouble seeing it otherwise.

8. You know... I like this, I like the shape, I like the "mummy-meets-cocktail-party" vibe... but what is that VERY unsettling detail right at crotch level? Why? Is there some sort of subtext to this dress? "I am woman, I am goddess-like... and I have one too."

9. I think I like this, too. But it has dots. I don't like dots. But it's nice. And the big flower. It's bright and cheery. Still... dots. I don't know.

10. Um. Ok, nice detail, interesting texture, very retro 60s... all the little voices in my head are at war. Jury's still out on this one.
