Which movie remake would you like to see?
The 1951 feature film "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is one of the best films ever made. It's considered to be a classic in the science fiction genre. But, the movie's heavy political message makes it much more.
And now the film has been remade. Keanu Reeves steps into the role of Klaatu, the visitor from another planet who brings some deadly news to Earth. The updated version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" opens Friday.
I can understand wanting to remake a bad movie. Imagine what could be done with a new version of the campy "Plan 9 from Outer Space." But is there really any reason to remake a movie that is considered a classic.
If this trend continues, then I would like to see "Forbidden Planet" remade. The film would be different with the kind of dark edge a Christopher Nolan or Tim Burton could bring to the production.
Here's your chance to sound off on remaking movies. Is there some classic film you would like to see remade? And it doesn't have to be in any specific genre.

Comments:
Given Keanu's acting ability, I'd figured he'd be playing Gort. I still can't believe they are remaing this one, it's one of my fav sci-fi movies next to War of the Worlds.
I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of either Logan's Run or Soylent Green. Or maybe Roman Holiday if they cast Anne Hathaway in Hepburn's role.

I was just thinking the other day that Plan 9 could be a cool remake if someone weird and creative got ahold of it, like a David Lynch or even Burton. But that's the way Hollywood goes; they remake the good movies, not the flops. Idiots.

I'd love to see some of Hollywood's bad musical adaptations of classic Broadway shows get remade -- like Lucille Ball in "Mame." And it's still one of the great travesties that "Hello, Dolly" got made with Barbra Streisand instead of Carol Channing.

Ok, we all know the reeeeeeeeeeeal reason the original
version of
"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is considered a classic. Yes?
Yes. It's Bernard Hermann's wondrous musical score featuring, at times, TWO (count 'em) theremins.
heck yeah!

Every couple years there are rumors and whisperings of a proper screen remake of Guys and Dolls and they never come together. I'd love to see a big screen version of the late 70s Tony-winning version starring Robert Guillaume I never got to see due to it's run occurring before I was born.
I also think Howard Hawks' Monkey Business could be a fertile playground for the Will Ferrell troupe.

THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT: Great Clint Eastwood/Jeff Bridges buddy picture, if I remade it, the gender would become female and I would probably cast Julia Roberts and Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez in the respective lead roles. The title might have to be changed however.

...havn't caught the new Andromeda Strain -but the old one had enough medical, aviation, and plot gaffes to drive a truck through.
Film (thinking Sci-Fi)
'On the Beach,' --but it's going to be really hard to beat the origional, that whole thing is amazing. (Please dont' let Nicholas Cage near it, please.)
'the Loved One' --great very dark comedy about the funeral business (done orig. in '65)
Series:
'Chiller Theatre' (I liked the WPIX NY version (it started in Pitt. Pa. in the early sixties,)
It just resurfaced (after 26 years gone) in Oct. of this year,
-basically hosted old horror movies with an excellent claymation 6 fingered hand coming out of a swamp.
Totally creepy stuff. Successfully scared a generation of elementary through high-school Metro area kids for more than a decade.
and
I'd like to see 'Days of Thunder' remade with canned meat products (spam, canned ham, maybe a can of alpo, with a couple cans of albacore tuna thrown in to mix it up a bit.)
might make a good swede...
(if canned meat doesn't really capture the nuance? perhaps beaded fruit.)

I think a remake of the Wizard of Oz is long overdue.
