Is this for real? Sleep e-mailing?
Both ABC News and Fox News have stories on reportedly the first case of sleep e-mailing. It stems from an article in the journal Sleep Medicine, based on work done by Seton Hall University researchers. The woman involved was prescribed zolpidem because she had severe insomnia. But then this started happening, says Fox News in its report:
According to the study, a 44-year-old woman, believed to be in a deep sleep, sent e-mails to friends asking them over for wine and caviar in what doctors believe is the first reported case of 'zzz-mailing' or using the Internet while asleep.
If this is legit, I find it a bit scary. What if -- instead of a wine and caviar invite -- she had been e-mailing gossipy notes about gal pals to the wrong gal pals? Or what if she had sent off nasty diatribes to her bosses? There's so many ways this could go wrong.
Whatever happened to just good old-fashioned sleepwalking?

Comments:
Not surprising at all.
As a sleepwalker in my late teens...I left my dorm room in Arizona....went to a pay phone..and called collect to my brother in Virginia. We carried on a half-hour conversation, during which we discussed politics, school and our sex lives. I learned about it a month later when my bro asked me to split the phone charges.
Think of bizarre dreams you have. What's to prevent you from carrying them out, 'unconciously.' ?

-actually?
This sorta happens a lot.
-Not long ago, there was a big deal made about people who were sleep deprived 'staying awake' but getting in wrecks, because they had actually fallen asleep at the wheel, (with their eyes open) and were not responsive to stimuli.
-More recent?
-some pretty heavy lawsuits on some of the 'sleep meds,' bacause folks would be awake, but (same,) sorta semi-concious) while awake, and, again, wrecking, getting injured, etc.
-really wild?
I knew of a patient about 15years ago that would be having an epileptic seizure and would pack their suitcases, respond to questions (whole time? NOT aware and mid-seizure,)
-Many meds. meant for 'anti'psychotic, depressive, convulsive, (and) 'mood-stablizers,' put a person in a state where they are awake, but have trouble with 'feeling like they're 'dreaming' -while awake.
(One of the reasons why a lot of people won't go on them.
It's like the boundaries of 'awake' and 'asleep' relax and overlap.)

OOOHHH scary.
I am a sleep walker and I also talk in my sleep.
Many secrets have been given up and needless to say, my friends boyfriends have seen too much of my panties during my late night strolls.
Scary stuff!

I've been known to have sleep text messaged... yeah I can see this happening.

Now wait a minute... this sounds more like waking up and doing something then falling back asleep and not remembering. Doing something while actually sleeping? Awfully talented. Really?

Bethany:
Thanks for last night.

...whups,
looked at the article, turns out zolpidem is 'ambien,'
and Ambien has been in the news a LOT in terms of people thinking their awake when they're not,
zoning out hours after being awake, and has gotten some pretty nasty high profile press...
I don't like this, they've already had to ratify the dosages, times, and warnings,
-this stuff is too weird as a med...
(Erm, Ms. Matlosz?
Perhaps a side study in the Bee regarding this med on the fair citizens of Frezsnooze? (just a suggestion.)

Sleeping, my ass.
It's called drunk emailing, and most of us know exactly what it's like to wake up the next morning wondering what the hell happened while we were out of it. (See: me, tomorrow morning.)

Ms Joey, I want to ask you on a date.
Would you like to, um, take a nap with me? Actually, I'll be downstairs with the camera. You just go 'head and nap.

Everyone's invited to my place for wine and caviar.

Stephen: Um, pervy. I like it!
Heather: The worst is opening your eyes in the morning and realizing, you arent in your own bed....I mean, that's what I've heard....never done that before!
