Lutz almost reveals too much to "Twilight" fans
A mention of the book "Twilight" often ends up in a conversation about rabid fans. They rival any of the groups that support the likes of "Harry Potter," "Star Trek" or the Oakland Raiders when it comes to loyalty.
Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in the film version of "Twilight" almost got too up close and personal with a couple of loyal readers.
It happened during the filming of the movie. After a long day on the set, Lutz headed back to his hotel. He had only been back at the room a few minutes when he heard a knock at the door. His first thought was that it was fellow cast members.
But it was a strange - and very nervous - female voice on the other side of the door. She said she had a gift.
His first instinct was to open the door. But, he had just stepped out of the shower. As soon as he found out the voice was a fan, he quickly dressed.
Outside the door were two women. They gave him a basket filled with of gifts for the entire cast. Lutz was so moved by their act of generosity, he stopped by the room the two women had rented at the same hotel - just across the hall from where he was staying - to thank them.
"It's definitely crazy being Emmett and being a part of this amazing experience of 'Twilight,'" Lutz says.
Lutz has been a working actor for several years. He appeared on television shows like "Heroes" and "Summerland." But he has not had this kind of fan reaction before. And this kind of reaction came before the film had hit theaters. If "Twilight" is a big hit, after it opens Nov. 21, Lutz will face even more close encounters of the rabid fan kind.
It hasn't only been Lutz to get such fan reaction. A woman approached Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie Cullen, at the airport. She asked the actress to hold her 6-month-old baby. Reed thought it was a weird request until she remembered in the fourth book of the "Twilight" series, Rosalie talks about how much she wanted to be a mom.
