Harmonies, skates, mustaches and bruises ...
How did a roller derby team get serenaded by a barbershop quartet in a tattoo shop parking lot? You'll have to check out tomorrow's 7 entertainment section in The Bee to find the connection. First, though, you gotta see this video:
Here's one hint: It's all part of an interesting weekend in Fresno. The Smog City Roller Grrls have a bout with Santa Cruz at 7 p.m. Saturday at Valdez Hall. Earlier in the day, The Gold Note Barbershop Chorus is a having a concert at Roosevelt High School to celebrate its 50th anniversary. More tomorrow.

Comments:
The only way this could have been more genius is if, at the end of the song, one of the grrls threw one of the quartet an elbow.

I threw my boxers once at a barbershop quartet.
I think the restraining order is still in effect....

watching this...
unkay,
I was raised with these sort of guys... (actually used to sing barbershop decades ago... high-tenors... they'll drag us into anything.)
Might possibly be the local chapter of 'Hounds for Harmony' (the male equal to 'Sweet Adalines,' which, my mom was for years.)
So here's the deal:
-when sweet adalines sing (with everything from quartets to trios to massive chorus' --it's beautiful, seriously, just forget the 'dork,' factor and just go...
(imagine a whole bunch of pretty voices singing harmony accapella... the stuff grabs you right by the heart and blows you away... you have no idea how beautiful singing can be until you hear this stuff.)
a bunch of guys doing it?
ahhhhh... yeh. I think we just found the visual for wikipedia under 'awkward.'
My little sister dated a 'hound,' for a while...
In highschool.
-she said he'd break out into song for no apparent reason in public to serenade her, (which was tremendously difficult to say the least,
-but she still thought he was a great guy, (I think he grew up to sell refridgerators or something, and his brother is a cop, or maybe he grew up to be a cop, dunno...)
Though I have no problem with serenading someone?
Watching this?
not THIS song, not THESE wingmen, and hell-no-not THAT garb...
(my poor sister,
those poor rollerderby girls...
Ladies, on behalf of misguided tenors across this fair terra firma, I'm soooooo sorry.)
That looked reeeeeealllly painful.
I think I'm going to go listen to some Ramones for a while.
best of luck.
