arrow Dear Taylor Swift, I'm sorry ...

taylor.jpgIf you listened to my interview with Taylor Swift and also read over the more succinct text version, you might have noticed a big oops on my part. Taylor did.

There's a point in the interview where she's talking about her relationship with her fans and says, "I'm just a senior in high school who has a different job." Problem was in the text version of the interview, my brain and my keyboard got crossed and I typed the word "better" instead of "different." Not the best goof, I know.

Apparently Taylor read the story, saw the screw up, then her publicist called my editor, and whammo, the mistake came to my attention. There was a correction in Saturday's Bee.

I have to say it's the first time that a famous person took me to task for such a thing, and that I respect it. So many apologies to Taylor Swift -- and to readers out there. I'm not perfect.

It's ok Mike. We all make mistakes. I still think you are pretty awesome.

Smooth move junior. Now she hates Fresno. I think in journalism 101 this problem could have been taken care of and learned properly. No credibility at all. Awful. Pathetic. Disgusting.

Congrats on being able to man up and admit your mistakes, Mike Oz, without having to hide behind fake names and silly aliases.

In the internet world, those kinds of comments are called "trolling" or "flamebait". Your freedom of speech (i.e. your spew) does not guarentee that your comments will actually be posted.

Yeah, well in case you don't get it, a blog is supposed to welcome comments, not censor them. This isn't China moron. There wasn't anything offensive or not true in what I wrote. In my Journalism class, steps to avoid this mistake are discussed. Unless you have a journalism degree, and are not a mailroom worker please don't waste your time posting.

Do they teach you anything in Journalism 101 about name-calling?

Yea, the rule is I call them like I see them.

Oz, it takes a big man to admit his mistake. "Real" journalists make those mistakes quite often and their retractions are rarely made with such sincerity.
As for those who hide behind fake identities on the internet, it's easy to call names behind a fantasy persona.
