arrow Sushi in the Tower ... yay!

SISHIS~1.JPGMonday is a happy day for me, because there's another new restaurant that has opened up within walking distance of my house. It's called Mr. Mr. Sushi (or, at least that's what it looks like on the sign and menu).

Now I'm not the biggest sushi guy (hating mayonnaise and avocado severely limits my choices), but I'm ecstatic this place is finally open (the window has been newspapered up for months). They did a test run yesterday during the bike races. I got takeout last night and lunch today. Both times I got the salmon skin roll (one of the cheaper items at $5.50).

I'm sure it's not the best in town, and I'm not a food critic (it's all subjective anyway, and people will go where they want). But here's to hoping that more places open up that save us Tower and downtown folk some gas money.

First, THANK YOU for the menus!

Second, I hope this doesn't hurt Million Elephant's business in the long run. I know, I know, Thai and Sushi are different, but I see Mr. Sushi is offering not just sushi choices.

YAY for another Mom and Pop shop. Can't wait to go there...I'm thinking tomorrow.

That menu looks like it's for children with all those photos.

What is the big deal, did the people of the Tower forget the Sushi place that was in the Tower before?

remember "Su-Kai Japanese Bistro" at 609 E. Olive at Echo?
They even had a web page... sukaisushi.com

That's right, people of the Tower District.

Stop being excited that you have another food offering in your neighborhood. Instead, sit back and think fondly on restaurants that USED to be there while your stomach growls.

see, i just don't remember su-kai japenese bistro, located at 609 e olive. that doesn't mean it wasn't there, just that i don't remember it.

when was it there? when did it leave? obviously, before 609 grille. but how long before that?

and i'm still hellof excited that there is apparently again a sushi place within walking distance of my place, along with the two thai places, even if there were already thai places, and the new italian spot. why? they're all within walking distance. and, if the food is good, they'll be more spots to frequent. i'm already an occasional customer of the thai places.

I totally didn't know about Su-Kai sushi.

I ate at Mr. Sushi tonight. TONS of spelling errors in the menu give you something to do for funsies while you wait.

Mike is nice.

The sushi (so far) is bland and unexperimental. Think more Sushi Day than Wasabi or Zipangu.

Will is right, the prices are right. The walls are still white/bland, and the shelves are still looking for kitsch, so there's a way to go.

I'm glad they're there, tho. I hope they expand their hours.

One to Glow On: They are SO 'Tower-Friendly.'

One to Grow On: We're a diverse folk. Feel free to offer more than the 'booty-booty' roll and expand your foodmaking desires.

We'll see how this place does!

Like some of the folks listed above, I was thrilled to see a Japanese restaurant open in The Tower. I didn't live in Fresno when this other Tower Sushi restaurant was open, but shame-on-you comments to Tower residents are really not productive at all.
My husband and I ate at Mr. Sushi last night and enjoyed a very nice meal. They are extremely newly open, and don't yet have everything on the menu (like Mochi Ice Cream). The spicy scallop roll we had was great, and the baked mussels were also very good. I think the food will continue to improve as the kinks are ironed out, and their late hours (until midnight on the weekends) make me very happy.

I dined there on Friday. VERY bad service and 45 minutes to get the wrong sushi roll. The worst was when I was closing my check. The waitress asked me if I liked my chicken teriyaki, and as it was pretty good I told her so, to which she replied, "I had it the other the night. I didn't care for it." Then she walked away. Very odd.

I have been there three times with friend. I like the environment and the music. The food has been good too. The service was mediocre. The waitresses could used more training on how to serve properly and they should learn what they have on the menu. The have forgotten what we ordered 3 out of 3 times.

Haha. I LOVE Suzanne's post. I actually work at Mr. Sushi. It's probably best to not say who I am, but yeah, the waitresses are getting better and that's not totally from my perspective. I've heard it multiple times from various customers so I'm guessing they're finally refilling drinks? =P
