Velvet Revolver -- Slashed!
UPDATE: So who went to the show last night? How was it? Leave your reviews ....
From 9/12: Prices have been cut for tonight's Velvet Revolver/Alice in Chains show at Selland Arena. Ten bucks can get you in. Top ticket prices are now $29.50. Those are down from the original $29.50 and $49.50.
If you missed it in yesterday's paper, check out my interview with guitarist Slash.
He's worth $10 alone, don't ya think?

Comments:
They did this with the ZZ Top concert as well. I bought my tickets for $50, when I could have waited a month and bought them for $10. Seems like the suckers that bought early should get a refund. At least give them the tickmaster fees back.

He was totally worth 50 bucks. It's a shame it was such a small house.

I think Fresno was in shock I know I was. I didn't think that the lead singer to ALice in Chains was gonna be that good. He hit every note, great stage presentation and seemed to like he was really part of the band. When they sang MAN IN THE BOX I felt that everybody let their guard down because he nailed it. They blew Velvet Revolver aka GNR away. They shouldn't have even went one stage after Alice.

I listened to everything by Alice in Chains in high school to the point of obsession. Last night I was a little worried to listen to Jerry Cantrell belt out the themes from my teenaged years. But from the first note to the last, it was simply a throw back and I was 15 again. Cantrell didn't sing the songs like they were sung way back when, he sung them like he would have way back when and it changed the songs but the intent was still there. A definite tribute to their fallen leader. They closed their set with Rooster and I think I lost my voice.
Velvet Revolver surprised me. I mean watching Slash and Scott run around that stage, at their age (not that they're old, but still) with all they have lived through... The VR songs rocked, the STP and GNR songs had a different flavor to them but still awesome and the icing on the cake, a Slash guitar solo going into Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.
I was on the floor and saw a lot, heard enough to have my ears ring for 5 hours after the show, and screamed my voice away.
I went to the show to have a good time and I was entertained beyond my expectations.
I'd pay $50 to see them again any day... and the people that didn't go, even after the ticket price drop... wow... you missed out big time!

I was a little apprehensive to see Alice In Chains for fear that it would be more like watching ANC karaoke than a concert, but I have to say I was extremely impressed with their new singer. He didn't sing every song the way layne staley did, but at times it was almost like he was channeling the former frontman. Awesome stuff, I can't wait to hear the new material they're rumored to be writing.
As far as velvet revolver, I'm not quite as enthusiastic. I've never liked their music much in the first place, but last night really drove home how generic and repetitive their songwriting is. If they would have cut a few songs off their setlist, and not needed TWO encores to finish up, I'd probably give them a higher score. Slash seemed a little out of form and distracted, and Scott Weiland looked very, very high. Not shocking I guess.
Overall worth the ticket price just for Alice, but I am surprised how empty Selland looked.

i had a great time at the show, although i realize i'm getting too old to stand in a sweating crush of people for 4 hours.
but really, sparta kicked off the show very well. i wish more people were there to hear them. check them out online if you get a chance.
alice in chains rocked the house. hard. going into the show, i was kinda just going to hear the music, and have a good time. aic delivered that, and reminded me why i liked them when i was younger. although, i've got point out that the new lead singer looks like warrick from csi.
i was joking with my friends about how we weren't going to hear any gnr hits like 'sweet child o mine.' fortunately, they didn't play that, but i was blown away by the selections from gnr & stp. so good. and the velvet revolver songs were well done. not quite as good as when stp came to fresno (w/red hot chili peppers and stole the show), but still very enjoyable.
but, like others, i wish i have known that they would slash ticket prices and would have bought them this week instead of when they first went on sale. and that more people would've come out.

dropping ticket prices sucks for the fans who bought early, hard to keep fans buying tickets early when you've twice screwed them, should have let full price fans bring a friend in for free or something
hey is that Renee, the old Circus bogus fan friend of mine?Spoon from KFSR?)

What's going on with the rock scene in Fresno? ALICE IN CHAINS was here and Selland was EMPTY!
I'm also upset about the ticket price drop too. What a bust! But that's fine, if Ticketmaster is content with priming the Fresno market as last minute ticket buyers and is not interested in generating early sales, I'll just buy late. Sheesh, Pearl Jam is right. Ticketmaster is an Evil!
But to get back to AIC, I was pleasantly energized and rocked out like no other. I wish they played more! It felt great to hear, see and feel their energy---those are real, and creative musicians up there.
Oh, and Velvet Revolver was good too--but what was up with Interstate Love Song? Someone was FLAT!

a different ed has it right. They should have let people who paid full price bring another person. that would have helped ticket buyers get their value and it would have helped filled the arena.
I'm of the belief that, at some point, you just need to forget about profits and let people watch the show. I'll take 7,000 people there at $20 each vs. 3,500 people there at $40 each.
That's not specific to this concert, by the way, just in general. It seems that the concert industry is outpricing itself. Not every show has to be $50 or $60.
And on another note: I just want to correct something said in a comment above. Ticketmaster has nothing to do with ticket prices for a show. They just sell the tickets and add on their fees. How much a show costs and if there's a price cut is solely up to the promoter, in this case Live Nation. It's the promoter who is assuming the loss and gain of money with these concerts. Ticketmaster is only a vendor for the promoter.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the clarification. So we should all call Live Nation with our complaints,..I mean suggestions..

Mike, I so agree with you. It was heartbreaking that the place wasn't full. I have a feeling the music industry is Rome towards the end. They're going to have to do some serious revamping.
