arrow This is a rant about Pete Wentz

20060622_pete_wentz.jpgYou don't know who Pete Wentz is - nor should you, unless you're a 12-year old girl with very poor spelling abilities, a warped sense of self esteem and really strong daddy issues, i.e. Ashlee Simpson.

This Pete Wentz is the bass player for a band called Fall Out Boy. They get played on the radio a lot which of course means they're not worth listening to. This guy is known for wearing a ton of guyliner (that's eyeliner for super-feminine tools; see also: Jared Leto), and for letting pictures he took of his own wang get posted on the Internet. He looks like a special edition Mr. Emo Potatohead. Only less sexy. And shorter.

Anyway, this Wentz person is all over my revered gossip sites a lot lately - one, for sharing a puking moment with Little Sis Simpson in a nightclub bathroom on the night of his 28th birthday (28. Seriously.), and two, for punching out some guy at one of his shows.

Frankly, I don't care if either story is true. I just want him to go away, and never ever come back. Every story I read about this guy involves him acting a fool, and grandma always said "If it walks like a douchebag and talks like a douchebag, it's probably Pete Wentz." Or something like that. You know how much old people ramble.

Stop being famously immediately, Pete Wentz. And take Ashlee with you. And her sister. And her dad. And O.J. In short, anyone named Simpson. Go!

I am not 12, nor am I a Simpson, and yet I like Pete Wentz. You're only seeing the sensationalized side of him. The truth is, he has a private side that the media decides not to focus on. He's a talented writer, an author, a gifted musician from humble beginnings, an artist (he designs and maintains his own clothing line), and he has a very good ear when it comes to realizing and discovering new talent (think Panic at the Disco, and The Academy Is...). Don't be so hard on Pete. He was voted one of People's 50 Most Beautiful, and he does a lot of nice things for his fans (he goes above and beyond in being available to us), for charity, and for his friends. It's a shame that only the bad things end up in the news, but that doesn't surprise me. No one wants to hear the good stuff. It isn't as much fun.

Fall Out Boy actually helps kids in need. There was something about that in fine print on one of their CD's.
And yes, I am a huge fan of Fall Out Boy and a 12-year-old. You probably believe that they are emo only because you have never heard any of their good songs - like "Hum Hallelujah" or "I'm Like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me + You)." Fall Out Boy is one of my favorite bands. I agree than most songs on the radio are not very musically pleasing, but a few are deserving of air time.
By the way, "12-year old" should be "12-year-old," and no one can possibly stop being "famously immediately."
