Opening for John Legend, it's ....
Not Corinne Bailey Rae! Not Robin Thicke! It's Emily King!!! Wait, who the heck is Emily King?
King is a New York-based soul singer/songwriter (ya know, 'cause she plays guitar), who's signed to J Records. She's 21, the daughter of two jazz singers. Her musical influences range from SWV to Nas to Radiohead. Her debut album "East Side Story" is due this summer. And doing a dozen or so dates with Legend seems to be a coup for King, who has also toured with Lyfe Jennings and Ludacris. Check out her MySpace for music and more info on her.
My take: Yes, I would have loved to see Corinne, too, but I figured she wasn't coming, or else we would have heard it by now. The songs on King's MySpace sound pretty good. I like "Colorblind." I'm interested to see what she can do live. What do you guys think?
