Nicole Richie was officially charged with a misdemeanor for DUI today in Los Angeles. Richie was arrested in December when her car was spotted going the wrong way on the freeway. She admitted to police that she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot.

According to People.com:

"Because of a prior DUI conviction in June 2003, by California law, Richie faces mandatory jail time of 90 days up to one year if convicted of a second DUI."

Richie's attorney says that Nicole "intends to continue with her career and will deal with any other issues that need to be addressed." Namely, she will continue to be famous for being anorexic, a surprise benefit of the disease now being the ability to slide between the bars of most jail cells.
