Unifying NASCAR punishments
Should NASCAR officials revise the current system how they penalize for infractions? Would you support a consistent set of penalties and fines for rough driving, obvious retaliation, illegal modifications, etc.?
What would be fair to drivers, owners and sponsors for each infraction? Perhaps a system like penalties in the NFL. It would always be $5,000 fine and reduction of 5 driver points for obvious retaliation after contact on the track, etc. Is each situation so different that it needs to remain at the discretion of officials from week to week?

Comments:
I absolutely think standard penalites and fines should be instituted in NASCAR. That is the only fair way to deal with things. Some times it seems the actions taken by NASCAR officials show favortism due to driver popularity and that does not bode well for the sport.
The officials should sit down and come up with definite consequences for each scenario that could arise, enforce the consequences and be consistent. Money and points are the most effective, but also maybe have a car remove its sponsor for a race in real serious situations. Maybe that would get some attention from those drivers that act childish and make decisions that could seriously hurt someone.
The sooner the better.

The problem is that everyone is looking at this from the big 3 perspective. NASCAR is not like the big 3.
NASCAR is a Sactioning body, and the teams (drivers, owners, and crew members) are members of the organization. Therefore, each team is considered as an Independant Contractor. NASCAR does not pay the Salaries of teams their sponsorship does. Even the race purse is provided by sponsors.
So the case by case basis is going to have to stand, and there is no way that NASCAR can say remove your sponsorship from your cars, especially when several are required by NASCAR rules.
I do agree with the with a set penalty, just like you have at your local short tracks. If the Management body finds you in fault they will suspend a driver/owner for a certain number of races and fines. Maybe the race suspensions is the real way to go.

Something should be changed to create fairness. It is uncool for a driver to get docked points, but then another driver like Jimmie Johnson to not get docked points. And I think points is the answer, they aren't as affected by just fines.
