Sanctions for Bulldogs Basketball

Do you think the NCAA should penalize the Fresno State men's basketball team above and beyond the self-imposed sanctions? Why or why not?

Read In Texas, little that Bulldogs control, a Bee article on the subject.

Comments:

The administration was right to impose the sanctions. Unfortunately it wasn't the team that made the mistakes, but of those responsible for the team. Since some of those responsible have left the university and team, they have already experienced some self-sanctions. The administrators that are still leading need to experience some type of sanctions, something that would directly affect them. Possibly that would curb repeating the mistakes that seem to have dogged the basketball team.

There has been a lot of pain distributed due to the "sins" of the b-ball program. Jobs have been lost, revenue has been squandered via lack of post-season play, deserving students lost out on scholarships that couldn't be offered, the prestige of the University has suffered, and the program has been weakened as recruiting has languished--this should be enough for the power-crazy NCAA, but I doubt it will be. Instead, I expect some additional pain to be applied--and paid for by Cleveland and his current players, who are not the culprits--by the National Curmudgeon Association of...oh, what could that last "A" stand for, anyway!?

Ithink that they should be penelized for that because they say it had nothing to do with it, then why penelize tham for nothing that they did...

As a former student and now, alumni, of Fresno State,
I feel a deep empathy toward our basketball program.
When I first appeared in Fresno, Boyd Grant was running
the program...He lead us to success on the court as well
as off the court. Seems as though the Administration needs
to stop with the quick fix and monitor their coaches more
closely. A turn for improvement was hiring Steve Cleveland
as head coach....any sanction placed against FSU basketball
wouldn't have had happen if he had been the coach for the
last eight years instead of the "high profile" ones they
hired.

On these basketball sanctions I think when a player fouls
up he should be punished, and I think that should go for
the coaches as well.

Over the years whenever a University's sports leaders commit violations as deemed by the NCAA the incoming coachs and athletes suffer. The term allowed for these athletes to compete generally expires long before the penalties themselves end. During this time many athletes harbor resentment and sometimes hostility toward the same program they have committed their elgibility to.
Penalise the guilty only....................DUH!!!!!!!!!
