Press Box is (very likely) opening downtown
After a commercial from the Press Box Sports Grill announced a second location in downtown Fresno, lots of folks wondered if it would take over the shuttered Austin’s.
The answer: No. It’s eyeing a Civic Center Square spot — specifically in the parking garage at Tulare and N streets.
I say “eyeing” because the deal is about a week away from being finalized, says Press Box co-owner Tom Miller. (Obviously, he’s confident it’ll go through, or he wouldn’t have run the commerical.)
If it turns out to be a go, expect to see a 75-seat restaurant early next year. The concept is burgers and sandwiches for a lunchtime crowd — which means smaller and quicker versions of dishes at the original Press Box.
Miller hopes to serve customers in “six minutes, for less than eight bucks.” Pretty ambitious for the downtown lunch rush, don’t you think?

Awesome, new businesses downtown is always good. I’ve been wondering what might move into those spots at the N Street garage. I think a restaurant/bar is a good fit. It seems a bit far to attract the Chukchansi Park crowd, though.
Hopefully something will move into the Austin’s space.
Sounds good! Congrats to Press Box. I really hope it works out for them. I’m really getting tired of this open and close crap that keeps goin’ on downtown.
I could have sworn that Austin’s was doing well… guess that shows what I know.
Too bad Austin’s can’t move back into that space. I liked them being right there. Perhaps it’s too early…
I still stand by the idea that the larger/master developed mixed-use project a la Santana Row or Bay Fair Mall would have done wonders for the local businesses. They would have provided the people and sense of “connection” necessary to sustain these ventures in a more workable setting and environment.
Just my two cents.

The food at the NW version on the Figarden loop is wonderful. Been there twice and both times ended up impressed. Not cheap, but very good. If they can move the quality South, DT will be the better for it.
dont get me wrong but not sure if everyone in southeast fresno will be running to grab some fettucine alfredo or baby spinach salads with itty biddy tomatoes anytime soon
the menu will have to be a little “tailored” to fit downtown, i.e. “bar” food and quick lunches
Congrats to Press Box! I’ve eaten there a couple times and enjoyed the atmosphere when I watched a world cup game there. I hope they are successful downtown.
I don’t really see how this new location will benefit Pressbox. I have a friend who rents limo’s all the time to take him to and from Pressbreezy, not to mention he threw an amazing birthday bash there (bottle service). I am willing to bet the revenue they made off of him and his friends ALONE is what is helping fund this new location….just an fyi
he said, “bottle service”..hahahahahahahahaha
LOL!!
