If you want pancakes, spread the word: At least 25 folks have to sign up for the deal to go through. Need a reminder of how this works? See the video, below.
ORIGINAL POST 3/17: Are you excited about Groupon in Fresno? With Groupon’s Fresno launch coming up this spring, it’s a good time to ask that question. If you’re not familiar with this website that offers steep discounts for services and entertainment, watch this video to see how it works in the Bay Area:
As in other cities, the Groupon folks want the Fresno service to have a strong base of locally owned businesses. A Groupon rep told me they’ve been scouring sites such as Yelp, Urbanspoon, and yes, The Beehive — all in an effort to figure out the places you like to visit.
So, I’ve got three questions for you:
1. Have you ever used Groupon in other cities? What was the experience like?
2. What discounts do you want to see? The Groupon folks say the Fresno service can include discounts from Yosemite and South Valley towns such as Visalia, so feel free to suggest businesses throughout the central San Joaquin Valley. (And let us know your choices in the comments below.)
It’s also worth noting that Groupon is growing quickly. About a year ago, Groupon had 7 employees and 400 subscribers in Chicago. Last week, it had more than 200 employees, 3 million subscribers and was in 40 cities, said Julie Mossler, Groupon’s public relations manager. The service likely will be in as many as 100 cities by the end of the year.
