Disneyland for the holidays

In a few weeks I’m heading to Anaheim to get my holiday on at the Happiest Place on Earth. I’ve been to Disneyland once before during the holidays, but this time I want to make sure I don’t miss out on anything. I’ll be there for three and a half days, so, in theory, I have time to do everything a lot.

So, I’m asking for your suggestions. In addition to all of the new, non-holiday stuff at the resort (Star Tours, The Little Mermaid), and the stuff that goes without saying (churros, more churros) what are the things I absolutely have to do on this trip? Drink hot chocolate on Main Street? Buy an ornament in New Orleans Square? Visit the Grand Californian Christmas tree?

The Disney Parks blog has posted about some stuff that’s new for the holidays this year, including an 18-foot cartoon-style tree in Toontown, a holiday addition to DCA’s “World of Color,” and a Phineas and Ferb holiday-themed street show, but I want to hear about your Disneyland holiday traditions. What’s your absolute December-at-Disneyland must-do?

If they happen to be making fresh candy canes while you’re therefore have to try and get one. It might require some waiting line since they only make a few batches but it’s worth it. Also you must see the Haunted Mansion Holiday makeover.

Heather says:

Thanks for the suggestions, Brad. I’ve heard about these magic candy canes. Sounds like I’d have a better chance getting into Club 33 than getting a cane. ;)

Sybil says:

If it “snows” on Main Street you have to be there! And be sure to take pictures in front of the Christmas tree.

Dan says:

The lights in New Orleans Square are amazing! Take some time to walk around there and look at all of the decorations!

I love Disneyland in the winter. The Snow is fun. I also love the nightmare before christmas in the haunted mansion. One of my favorites. I will be there the 20th-the 22nd of this month. So excited. Have you done any of the charecter dining? It’s expensive, but fun!!!

I would suggest spending food money on The Napa Rose over the character dining. The service is out of this world, the food is unbelievable in all the good ways ( but order something you’d never order anywhere else, so worth it).
Or, if it’s just too much of a stretch, dessert and coffee in the lounge is a heavenly second.
As for the park I am always partial to The Haunted Mansion ( Jack’s my man) and New Orleans in particular. So much so that our Christmas tree pays homage to New Orleans square’s Christmas decorations.

Claire L says:

BTW… our tradition is to wrap up tight, huddle together with hot chocolate and watch whatever show is happening one night…. Mostly I just love all of the trees filled with lights, cuddling with my guy and watching my girl oooo and aaahhh with us over all the pretty.

I love all these suggestions, guys. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

Snow, New Orleans Square and Haunted Mansion Holiday are definitely on my to-do list.

Claire, Napa Rose is on my bucket list. Not on this trip, unfortunately, but someday I hope to enjoy a full meal there, and stay at the Grand Californian, something I’ve yet to do.

Claire L says:

Oh, I would LOVE to stay at the Grand Californian. That and dining at the Vitner’s table at Napa Rose is difinetely on my bucket list!
