The Beehive Asks: Do cast departures fill you with ‘Glee’?

Entertainment Weekly reports today that at the end of “Glee’s” upcoming third season, cast members Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith will leave the show.

Creator Ryan Murphy says that characters Chris, Rachel and Finn will graduate from William McKinley High and head off into the real world, as high schoolers usually do.

It’s a bold step. We’ve come to know and, well, maybe not love these characters, but the show has focused pretty heavily on these three characters in particular, and if Murphy’s reasoning for their departure sticks, we can expect a second batch of characters — pretty much everyone else — to leave at the end of the fourth season (No Brittany? No way!).

So, I’m wondering: Will you continue to watch “Glee” knowing that the show will feature a rotating cast of characters? Or do you think, as I do, “Glee” should wrap it up for good with a nice, tidy ending this season?

I really enjoy the show though the 2nd season didn’t get up to par as the first season. However, I enjoy this concept. Like the West Wing, the President’s staff kept changing like in real life with new batch of characters. Yeah, most of the main characters stayed on, but new cast were introduced and it work. I think Glee will work out as well. My question is, after a ‘Nationals win’, what happens next?

Tanya says:

I was somewhat torn when I read this news. Yes, I’m sad that some of the main plot-drivers (and drama-makers) are going to be gone, but at the same time I’m not surprised with the concept. Isn’t that what happens in a…you know, REAL high school?

Although, I did read Murphy saying that the only person that could be left behind for one more year would be Brittany (totally believable). And, I bet they’ll think of a way to keep the characters “around” a little longer. They may have graduated but they haven’t left Lima yet.

Kaite says:

Rachel and Finn ARE Glee. I guess it will be a good way to showcase new talent, but their voices together define the show.

ahmward says:

It’s time for them to move on with their careers and it is time for the show to showcase new actors and actresses. Cory Monteith may have a baby face, but he is too old to be taken seriously as a high school student.

Matt says:

This is a risky move. I was watching the British version of Skins for the first couple seasons and then all the main characters moved on and it brought in a new group of kids and I completely lost interest. Hope it doesn’t happen with Glee.
