The Beehive Asks: What haven’t you done at Disneyland?

DisneyMe.jpg

I’m going to Disneyland tomorrow; it will be the first time I’ve been to the park in January. All the holiday decorations will be in the process of being taken down, the Haunted Mansion will be closed to remove the holiday overlay, construction walls will be up all over Disney California Adventure … it is what’s known as “off-season,” a new visiting experience for me.

I started thinking about how often I’ve been to Disneyland, and whether there is anything else I’ve never done before. Turns out, there are still plenty of new experiences to be had. For example, I’ve never ridden in the Lilly Belle before. The Lilly Belle is the caboose at the end of the train, formerly a traveling lounge for Walt’s V.I.P. guests, and it isn’t always in use. I’ve heard that if you ask really nicely, you might be able to take a spin around the park in it, so that’s on my list of things to do this trip.

I’ve also heard that guests are sometimes allowed to “steer” the Mark Twain Riverboat, so you know that’s also going on my list.

There are a couple of dining spots I’ve never been to: the Harbour Galley, the Hungry Bear restaurant, the walk-up gumbo counter in New Orleans Square. I’ve never eaten a turkey leg before. These are all things I’m looking to try out.

At California Adventure, I’ve never been on the Golden Zephyr, the Silly Symphony Swings, or the Jumpin’ Jellyfish. I haven’t seen the World of Color water show yet. And I haven’t been on Mickey’s Fun Wheel (though my huge fear of heights is probably going to keep that on the “Never” list).

I’m looking forward to this trip, and to making it all about new experiences for me and for the people I’m going with, as well. And I’m curious to know, what is something you’ve never done at Disneyland? Is there a food you’ve wanted to try but never have? Have you always wanted to take a seat on the floor in the Main Street Cinema and watch all of “Steamboat Willie?” Or maybe ride Splash Mountain in the dead of winter? What’s new to you?

Many things always to do…..but had just discovered this ‘The Mattercam’ a live feed from the park,…loved watching people streaming into the park, and then out in the rain, and of course the matterhorn ride!
Have fun!!

I’ve never seen the basketball court inside the Matterhorn or Walt Disney’s personal apt inside the Firehouse building (I believe?) though I suspect you’d have to know some important folks to see those. Also, I’ve also never been to Disneyland’s exclusive Club 33 located in New Orleans square. You actually might be able to get into that but again would have to know some cool people.

This pretty cool. Thanks for the link!

One thing that I ALWAYS get is Dole Whip. That stuff is delicious. You can find it right outside the Enchanted Tiki Room attraction.

Also, keep in mind that if you buy a balloon, and it pops, they will give you another one for free. It works, I’ve tried.

I’ve been on The Lilly Belle and “steered” the riverboat. For the Lilly Bell ask the engineer on the sly, they don’t like to let people know you can do it. For the river boat try to be one of the first on and walk straight to the top. You need to ask the captain yourself. The cool part of that is you get to sign a guestbook and get a certificate.
I really want to see The Dream Suite and walk through Space Mountain with the lights on. Has anyone ever taken the official tour? I really want to take the “A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps” tour at Disneyland and the Segway tour at California Adventure.

I type this from less than a mile away from Disneyland-tonight was our last night here-we have been in Anaheim for a week and spent 3 days in DL. You have to see World of Color, its is beautiful. I suggest you eat at Ariel’s Grotto (on the pier) they have decent food for a reasonable price and just for eating there you get VIP passes to World of Color (otherwise you need a fast pass to watch from a designated area and tickets are on a first come basis). I bought a hidden mickeys book today and have had a great time finding them. Also, the lines aren’t as long during this off season. Have Fun!
