Weekend Rewind: Advertising anecdotes, alternate SwedeFest and mysterious spots
Hey y’all. Here we are on yet another Monday morning wondering where the hell Sunday went. What kind of a weekend did we have? Good? Bad? Bitch cold?
FRIDAY: After a quick beer at Full Circle and an equally quick dinner at Livingstone’s, I headed to the Tower Theatre for Fresno Filmworks’ screening of Art & Copy, which I found to be … meh.
Following the film, I walked over to Veni Vidi Vici, where I ran into the fine folks known as Love The Captive, who convinced me to jog over to Starline to catch Shiver Fox. Being an old woman, I only managed to stay awake for three Shiver Fox songs, so I’ll reserve judgment on the new band. I will say, however, that I really rather liked opening act Poor Man’s Poison.
SATURDAY: Spent the morning watching “Sell This House.” I’ve never sold a house, but I find the show inexplicably entertaining. Later, I met a friend for lunch at a very mediocre taco place, then spent the afternoon making and eventually eating Swedish meatballs. After dinner, I played a few rounds of a long-lost Parker Brothers game called Probe (calm down — it’s merely a word game, a combination of “Wheel of Fortune” and Go Fish).
SUNDAY: Got out of town by taking a day trip to Santa Cruz and the ever-popular Mystery Spot. As far as tourist traps go, this one is pretty good — there’s something creepy about being in an old(ish) cabin in the woods. However, if you experience just the slightest bit of vertigo, you will probably, as I did, feel a strong need to pass the hell out. Still worth it, though, as admission is $5 and you get one of those ubiquitous yellow bumper stickers at the end of the tour.
So, fellow Frespeople, what did you do this weekend? Sip chardonnay on the Madera Wine Trail? Rock out with The Misfits? Or rock out with Nikolaas Kende?

Spent a good deal of my weekend caring for a rather sick basset puppy.
Did get a trip to Hanford’s Superior Dairy (still amazed at how huge a ‘single scoop’ sundae can be!).
Also, dinner at one of our fave Kingsburg spots:
Los Pepe’s.
Also spent an inordinate amount of time with a tape recorder (will we ever ever finish this CD?—it’s getting closer and I’m lovin’ the sounds.)
–p.s. the puppy’s getting better, but is still not quite out of the woods.
I’m sorry to hear about your puppy, Blake Jones. I hope s/he has a full recovery.
Thank you.
I went home for lunch and he’s lookin’ almost as good as new. The wife said
he peed and it came out the right place.(’nuff said. –but *that* is big news for the little guy.)
I got the New Super Mario Bros Wii … and it is AWESOME! 2-D, side-scrolling Mario FTW!
I went to opening night of Twelve Angry Men at Cal Arts Blackstone. Go see it, it was really good!
Blasting foos across the country in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. Sweet, sweet video gamin’!
I went to the Huntington Boulevard historic home tour. Gorgeous houses (and I was very entertained by all the Twilight posters in the little girls’ bedroom).
Disneyland.
It was cool.
Lucky.
