The Beehive Asks: Best of MJ

thriller-michael-jackson.jpg

Although he’d essentially become a walking punchline in recent years, there was a time when everyone loved Michael Jackson. Everyone.

If you were a kid in the 80s, you worshiped the guy, and no matter what scandalous stories came out in later years, or how much his appearance changed, it most likely didn’t diminish your love for his early music.

For example, I go stupid whenever I hear “Billie Jean” to this day. I stop whatever it is I am doing, and start singing and jerking around (normal people call it “dancing,” but that doesn’t accurately describe my awkward moves) until the song is over. Every time.

So sound off. In your opinion, what song/s represent the best of MJ?

Oh wow, Thriller, PYT, Billie Jean… the list goes on and on.

Travis Sheridan says:

Thriller
Surprisingly, I watched the “Making of Thriller” in my 3rd grade class. The teacher bribed us with that movie to get us to sit through Gandhi.

Heather says:

Who the hell makes third graders watch “Gandhi”? That’s child abuse.

mdub420 says:

“I want to rock with you, all night!!”

MsJoey says:

Rock with you then definately PYT!

Chris says:

Don’t stop till you get enough, smooth criminal, black and white, off the wall..RIP MJ

Definitely “Rock With You”. And anything from “Thriller”. Soundtrack of our youth, right, Heather?

Kathy Mahan says:

I’ve always like “Billie Jean” the most.

James says:

Hands down… Moonwalker. Smooth criminal. ‘Nuff said.

Mike Oz says:

Probably “Billie Jean” … but I’d also shout out “The Way You Make Me Feel” as my most underrated MJ song. But then you gotta give it up to “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and “Smooth Criminal.” And it’s not a solo song, but “I Want You Back” is the JAM.

Also: I wonder if I’m the only person who doesn’t have “Thriller” (the song) in his top 10 MJ songs?

marcel says:

His “Off The Wall” album is still one of my favorites.

He was so washed up it crazy sorry he ain’t the Stones or Beatles i will always remember and sorry I want you back or ABC was his best work!

Can’t beat Billie Jean. The way you make me feel 2nd.

Lisa Maria Boyles says:

Mike! Me too — “The Way You Make me Feel.” Takes me back.

GigiWright says:

so…I’m going to break down because I’m semi-anti-Michael Jackson…but whatevs. I do remember that my very first jazz dance back in the day was to Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin…Mama se mama sa mama co o sa. Yeah, I have nooo idea what that’s supposed to mean, but there you have it. I have put in my two cents bout MJ.

Compensa OC says:

“Rock With You” of course is the best one of MJ!

ed says:

Heather says:

I second (third? fourth?) “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Underrated and great.

Jamie says:

thriller, man in the mirror, beat it

brodiemash says:

Gonna go against the grain here but I thought “Scream” was dope and the video was pretty effin amazing. Plus he dropped an F-bomb.

DChild says:

Yeah, I’m with you on Thriller Mike. Not one of my favorites either.

1) Don’t Stop til You Get Enough
2) You Wanna Be Starting Something
3) PYT
4) Beat It
5) Man in the Mirror

And, agreed, Best song he was ever involved with is I Want You Back. Hands down.

“The Way You Make Me Feel”, always makes me smile.
“You Are Not Alone”, always makes me cry.

Martin Martinez says:

“Beat It” represented the best of him.The video for the song featured actual gang members who were great in front of the camera. They melted at the chance to work with Michael Jackson.
