I will concur that Mr. Obama is a celebrity only in that he is similar to Paris Hilton (Famous for doing nothing of any consequence).
The last guy had 8 years to f**k this country up. Maybe we should give Obama a little more than two months to fix it.
I’m always awed by President Obama’s popularity. More power to him.
Clauvius, I have to admit, the only things Obama has really done in his first 70 days has been to introduce lots of legislation to undo what the previous administration has done.
Otherwise, what has he accomplished? What? The stimulus plan? Getting the CEO of GM to quit, and signing a bill of accountability for all the automakers and the banks and AIG?
Reversing stem cell bans, ordering GITMO closed, sending troops to Afghanistan, participating in the G20 summit and accomplishing 9 out of 10 of the goals set, including stunning new economic negotiations? New treaties set with Germany, Pakistan and negotiation talks with all Muslim countries?
:::sigh::: Boring, right? Like he’s pretty much getting paid to appear at parties and wave! Oh, wait, there’s also the completed and offered budget, which, if approved, cuts the deficit by 1.4 trillion in 4 years. And something about lowered interest rates, government oversight and takeover of failed mortgages, plus assigning all 30 cabinet posts and getting every one of those assignees approved?
Negotiations with the Greek Ecumenicals, the new federally funded HIV/AIDS policy (first in 20 years), A roundtable discussion in Turkey with economic negotiations, assigning the Health Care Reform council, pushing succesfully the new NATO head, a Danish man (by negotiating succesfully with Turkey), a new tax policy already implemented to raise taxes on the upper 1% while lowering taxes on those making $250K or less…
Oh, I’m sorry, Clavius.
Were you asking about the complete first 70 days?
Because these actions were just from the last 3 weeks.
So I’m going to go out on a limb and say perhaps you might STFU on this one?
But I’ll give you one thing…Paris does look better in a bikini than Obama.
I can’t say anything more my man. Well done.
Is Robert Downey Jr. wearing a bikini or thong panties? Of course the thong, no panty line.
Oh yeah….a trillion here and a trillion there….easy! Geitner?…and the other tax cheats oh yeah…the foxes are happy now!!! thats progress….
That screeching sound you hear? The happy liberals heralding a Hard left turn by this administration echoing around the country…
OH yeah Turkey and the Apology Tour……remember his big promises to get them to admit to the Armenian genocide? More empty campaign promises…..There IS a reason they are not in the EU yet! Europeans see them for what they are…..
Careful what you wish for……
OMG Seth Rogan is Adorable!!
And damn but RDJ is a good lookin man!
Damn, Stephen! That was amazing.
Clavius, you got moded!
Stephen,
I will concede your point that Paris does indeed look better in a bikini.
Perhaps I should have qualified my statement. Mr. Obama has done nothing to improve our society (much like Paris Hilton).
To your points:
Regarding the CEO of GM and legislation of the automakers; Why do we want government in free enterprise? If the CEO of GM was so terrible and he was leading his company to ruin it was the choice of the company to put him in that position and the consequences should reaped by that company. The great thing about this country and its free market system is that when something fails it creates a void and the ambition and drive of the American people not the government will fill that void. I do not want a government to determine my employment.
On the closing of GITMO I too think it’s great that we realease people who hate our country and will actively strive to destroy it. Closing GITMO is like releasing sideshow Bob and expecting him not to attack the Simpsons because he’s grateful he’s out of Prison.
Sending troops to Afghanistan? I’m sure the troops will appreciate being sent to fight by a President who’s track record as a senator demonstrates and total lack of belief in the ability of the American soldier.
Negotiating with Muslim countries? I too am thrilled that we’ve changed our policy and now will negotiate with terrorists and our enemies and that we will agree to let them continue to spew their hatred towards while harboring the newly freed GITMO residents and encouraging them to kill more Americans through terrorist attacks.
1.4 trillion reduction in deficit? I can hardly be excited about this when I’m faced with 10 trillion in new spending through his great budget over the next 10 years. What a great idea to increase ever taxpayers debt load by $63,000.
Assigning a cabinet filled with tax cheats with the aid of a Democrat controlled congress. That’s like convincing a cat to eat a mouse. Great accomplishment. Mr. Obama has succeded in getting people to do what they would do anyway.
Health care reform? I am excited about waiting six months for an MRI and standing in line in an emergency room when I’m bleeding to death.
Why don’t I just STFU on this one? Because I and others like me have done just that for so long that the destruction of this country is finally occuring because we did not want to force others to believe as we do as Mr. Obama and his ilk have done. I’m not asking for agreeance on all of my beliefs just leave me the freedom to continue believing them and quit giving my freedom, my money, my time and my safety to the rest of the world. We were a shining light set on the hill. We were the envy of the world and now we are becoming the world. We were not perfect. Just as no man can be no country can be but by giving in. By looking for the approval of the world so we can hang with the In-Crowd is ridiculous.
Why heels?
@Bethany: I just looked up RDJ’s height, which is 5’8″ to 5’9″. His co-star, Gwyneth Paltrow is 5’9″ without heels, so I’m guessing that’s the reason for the tall shoes.
@Everyone else: Love the comments, don’t mind the Obama conversation, but now that everyone’s had his say, I’m cutting off any commenter that belittles another commenter or asks him to STFU.
Clavi, I’ll just reference you to last night’s The Daily Show.
Jon Stewart, naturally, handled this with much more tact and aplomb than I ever could have.
Thanks for the reminder, HMac…I should know better.
Obama, love him, hate him, or continue to wait to decide. The real problem with our government for the last eight years has been the Nancy Pelosi Harry Reid show. with a weak President Bush unable to fight them they have taken out country down a perilous road. Personal accountability, including that of members of Congress like Barney Frank, has been lost.
